Aiden Carter and Anya King continued their winning ways when trials for the T&T Davis Cup and Fed Cup tennis teams continued at the National Racquet Centre (NRC) in Tacarigua yesterday.
Carter, the top junior player in the region, took care of Nkrumah Patrick 6-1, 6-3, which added to his victories over Keshan Moonasar and Adam Ramkissoon only the day before, in the round-robin tournament. And later yesterday the St Mary's College student returned to the court to whip Scott Hackshaw 6-3, 6-2 for his second win.
Carter's triumph followed victories by Nabeel Mohammed and Akiel Duke on courts two and one respectively.
Mohammed, who was beaten by Dexter Mahase on Thursday, rebounded impressively yesterday against Chung, claiming a 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-1 win under overcast conditions in Tacarigua. However, he failed to win his second match against Duke on court six, losing 6-7, 4-6. Duke, a winner on the opening day of the trial, started positively with an impressive 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Ramkissoon, and as his form improved, he brushed aside Mohammed.
Ramkissoon who for many years, held one of two top positions among the juniors with Carter, made amends later in the afternoon period, by beating Mahase in straights sets 7-5, 6-1.
Among the Women, however, King produced a near flawless victory over Victoria Koylass 6-1, 6-1, while one of the tournament's favourites Yin Lee Assang went down to Soizette Simmonds in two sets 6-2, 6-3. Koylass later failed to exact revenge in her second match, going down for a second time to Abigail Jones 6-1, 6-2.
The men will have three spots and two reserve places up for grabs on the T&T team while the women will only have one spot and a reserve place.
