Janeisha Cas­simy got Ebony Z Champs com­fort­ably past Spar­toms when ac­tion con­tin­ued in the A1 Di­vi­sion of the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Net­ball League at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty on Sat­ur­day (May 10).

The goal-shoot­er, a for­mer na­tion­al play­er, net­ted 38 goals from 47 at­tempts to lift Ebony to a 49-31 vic­to­ry in the fi­nal match of the evening. Cas­simy opened with Ree­ka Seer­at­tan (4/12) in the shoot­ing cir­cle, and they had the even­tu­al win­ner nar­row­ly ahead at the end of the first quar­ter, 10-9. Ebony pulled fur­ther out front in the sec­ond quar­ter to a nine-goal (25-16).

Spar­toms was bet­ter in shoot­ing in the third pe­ri­od, thanks to Za­kiya Mc Ken­na (14/22) and na­tion­al youth play­er and mid­dle-dis­tance run­ner Shi­an Lewis (17/26), al­most match­ing their op­po­nent goal-for-goal (8-10) but still trailed by dou­ble-dig­its head­ing in­to the fourth quar­ter (35-24).

Lat­er in the match, Seer­at­tan was re­placed by Re­han­na Ali as goal at­tack, and she was sec­ond-best in shoot­ing for Ebony with sev­en from 14 as their team went on to outscore Spar­toms in the fi­nal ses­sion, 14-7, to take the 18-goal vic­to­ry.

Spar­toms did get suc­cess in the lone B Di­vi­sion match ear­li­er. Led by Des­tiny Samuel (8/11) and Raquia James (7/15), Spar­toms de­feat­ed Mal­ta Carib Sen­a­tors, 16-4 af­ter lead­ing at the end of each quar­ter - 1-0 in the first, 6-1 at half­time tim and in the third 12-3.

Three match­es were played in the Ki­wi Di­vi­sion, and it was Gems, Barataria Po­lice Youth Club (PYC) and Mu­cu­rapo Ex-Pupils com­ing away with wins.

Venus Kirk helped Gems out­play Hori­zon, 19-3, in a match her team led through­out. The quar­ter scores read 4-0, 10-1 and 13-3, all in favour of Gems.

Syd­ney Villere­ol (10/20) and Alaya Dow (10/15) were the main scor­ers in Barataria PYC’s big 24-3 vic­to­ry over CS Jets.

In the oth­er Ki­wi Di­vi­sion match, the Ex-Pupils were chal­lenged by Tran­scend Unit­ed but sealed a nar­row one-goal (7-6) win. Jade Joseph led the shoot­ing with 5 of 12.
