Central FC looks to cut Defence Force lead

With un­beat­en lead­ers De­fence Force not in ac­tion un­til Sun­day, sec­ond-placed MIC Cen­tral FC Re­boot will have a chance to cut the points gap be­tween both clubs in the 12-team 2024/2025 T&T Pre­mier Foot­ball League (TTPFL) Tier I, when they meet Ter­minix La Hor­quet­ta Rangers Fri­day (Feb­ru­ary 14) night.

The meet­ing be­tween Cen­tral FC and Rangers, the sec­ond of a dou­ble-head­er at the Phase II Recre­ation Ground, La Hor­quet­ta kicks off at 7 pm.

The De­fence Force, un­der the guid­ance of first-year coach Coach Den­sill Theobald, heads the ta­ble with a max­i­mum of 30 points from ten match­es, led by Isa­iah Lea­cock with 11 goals and for­mer USA-based T&T in­ter­na­tion­al Kevin Moli­no with ten, while Cen­tral FC is next with 21 points fol­lowed by de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Ath­let­ic Club Port-of-Spain with 20, Mis­cel­la­neous Po­lice FC with 19, San Juan Jabloteh with 18, and Cale­do­nia AIA with 16 to round out the top six.

Cen­tral FC will go in­to tonight's clash on the back of a last-gasp win over Prison Ser­vice, 3-2 via a late penal­ty-kick win­ner from cap­tain Ty­rone Charles, his sec­ond goal of the match while Rangers, eighth on the ta­ble with ten points from as many match­es al­so had a pos­i­tive re­sult, a 1-1 draw with AC Port-of-Spain, who need­ed a 93rd-minute strike from Robert Primus to snatch a draw.

Two hours ear­li­er at La Hor­quet­ta, for­mer na­tion­al coach An­gus Eve will seek to get his Club San­do, who will see the re­turn of Ja­mal Jack from in­ter­na­tion­al du­ty, back to win­ning ways when they meet the sur­prise pack­age so far this sea­son in San Juan Jabloteh, with the lat­ter ex­pect­ed to wel­come back teenagers, Lin­dell Sween and Der­rel Gar­cia from in­ter­na­tion­al du­ty with the T&T se­nior men's na­tion­al team away to Ja­maica last week­end as well.

On Sat­ur­day (Feb­ru­ary 15), a dou­ble-head­er is al­so card­ed for the Ari­ma Mu­nic­i­pal Sta­di­um with 1976 FC Phoenix go­ing up AC Port-of-Spain from 5 pm while Cale­do­nia AIA, com­ing off a 2-1 loss to Jabloteh en­ter­tains FC Ea­gles from 7 pm.

On Sun­day (Feb­ru­ary 15), De­fence Force will see the re­turn of Moli­no, goal­keep­er Jabari St Hillaire, de­fend­ers Justin Gar­cia and Isa­iah Gar­cia, mid­field­ers Kai­him Thomas and Adriel George, and strik­er Brent Sam, who all missed their 5-1 win over Point Fortin Civic last time out due to in­ter­na­tion­al du­ty with the So­ca War­riors, aim to end the first half of the sea­son with a per­fect 11 wins from as many match­es.

The leader will meet Prison Ser­vice FC from 5 pm with Po­lice FC who will wel­come back T&T in­ter­na­tion­al Jo­evin Jones up against Point Fortin Civic, two hours lat­er.
