The finals of the National Primary School Football League will be held Wednesday morning at the Arima Velodrome, beginning at 9.30 am. The champions of Tobago will travel to Trinidad to take on the champions from Trinidad.
Due to the fact that the National League had no major sponsor to cover travel expenses from the quarterfinal stage, it was decided to hold the competition in two parts: one in Trinidad and the other in Tobago.
Now, the three winners from the Trinidad Leg and the three winners from the Tobago Leg will meet to determine the national supremacy. The day kicks off with the Boys’ Under-12 final, followed by the Girls’ U-15 and concluding with the Boys’ U-15 championship.
On Wednesday, Arima Boys’ RC wrote its name into the history books when it won both the Boys’ U-12 and U-15 Trinidad championships at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. Arima Boys’ RC beat Nelson Street Boys’ RC 3-2 in overtime after being behind 2-0 in the first half. They rebounded well and played like genuine champions until 30 seconds from the end of the game when Antwon Monroe gave them the Trinidad title in the U-12 category.
The St. George East District and Trinidad champion, Arima Boys’ RC, will meet former national champion Scarborough RC to settle who will be the national champion of T&T. Scarborough is also unbeaten, and a great game of football is expected.
The second match will pit the highly successful Signal Hill Government against the Trinidad champion Pleasantville Government. Signal Hill is known for its talented teams and will need to stop the marauding captain and “Most Valuable Player” of Pleasantville, Vernecia St Bernard, from taking control of the game. However, the signs are in favour of Signal Hill to take the title. Kick-off is at 10.30 am.
The final match of the morning, in the Boys’ U-15 category, will see the two heavyweights of Primary Schools football locking horns in what will be a tremendous game. Bon Accord will be looking to return to the top.
Bon Accord has a really great resume when it comes to the National Games. This has always been a talented school, and they are expected to play well today to try and stop the relentless Arima Boys’ RC. In the Trinidad Leg final Arima Boys beat Egypt Village Government 6-0, also on Wednesday. This is going to be a tactical affair, and the most important decisions will be made by the young players. This is going to be a tough and exciting match-up.
