Second-half substitute Michael Chaves scored with seconds left on the clock as T&T Under-20s escaped with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over St Vincent and The Grenadines in the Pool D match of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup qualifiers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo on Friday night.
The visitors led 2-0 after Kirtney Franklyn scored from the penalty spot as early as the second minute while Steven Pierre headed his team's second to stun and silence the hometeam supporters.
Captain Cody Cooper got the locals back into the contest with a composed finish inside the 18-yard box in the 36th minute as T&T went into the interval 2-1.
USA-based Larry Noel drew the host level with a cheeky finish past goalkeeper Triston John in the 62nd minute after which T&T then wasted few chances through substitute Tyrell Moore and a goal-shy Malachi Webb before Chaves who replaced an injured Lindell Sween just before the halftime whistled conjured up the winner for the locals firing into the roof of the net past John to spark off wild celebrations on an otherwise disappointing night of football from the Brian Haynes coached team who joined Canada on three points with the win.
In the first match, Myles Morgan netted a hat-trick as eight-time Fifa Under-20 World Cup qualifiers Canada thrashed 10-man Dominica 8-0 in Pool D opener.
