Kadeem Corbin scored the first hat trick of the new T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) Tier I Division season in leading AC Port-of-Spain (PoS)to a 4-1 win over host 1976 FC Phoenix at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago on Friday.
Sedale Mc Lean got the other goal for AC Port-of-Spain, last year's league runner-up to improve to a maximum of six points after two matches, the same as Terminix La Horquetta Rangers while Mickaeel Jem Gordon, the Tier II "Forward of the Year" and "Golden Boot" awards winner, fired in Phoenix' lone item as last year's Tier II champion remained winless after two matches.
At the Phase II recreation ground, in La Horquetta, Isaiah Lee got a first-half brace and captain Tyrone Charles also found the back of the net in their 3-1 defeat of Morvant Caledonia United.
Lee got his goals in the 19th and 34th minutes with Charles firing in his item in the 30th for a 3-0 lead at the interval while Tevin Scott registered a 67th-minute consolation strike for Morvant Caledonia who also remained without a point after two rounds of matches.
In the first match at La Horquetta, Shervonhez Hamilton scored the lone item in the 30th minute to secure a 1-0 win for Tiger Tanks Club Sando, third-placed finishers last season, against Central FC.
Today, (Sunday, December 3), Tier I will continue with two matches with defending champion Defence Force and Police clashing at the Ken Cooke Ground, St James Police Barracks in the ‘Battle of Protective Services’ from 6 pm while Eagles FC and Prison FC face off at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima at 4 pm.
This year’s league competition features a $250,000 prize for the championship team in Tier I for the upcoming season, while second place gets $160,000 and third, $90,000. In Tier II, the winner will take home $150,000, with the second and third earning $90,000 and $60,000, respectively.
PVDM, Police win Tier II openers
Petit ValleyDiego Martin (PVDM) United and Police were both in winners row when the T&T Premier Football League Tier II Division kicked off its second season Saturday.
At St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, Petit Valley/Diego Martin crushed Miscellaneous Laventille United 4-1 led by a double from Matthew Waldron, and one each from Josiah Alleyne and Kiron Manswell to cancel out replies from Ellon Mc Comie and Kevin Mc Neil.
At St Mary’s College ground, Serpentine Road, Josiah Phillip scored a minute before the half-time interval to earn T&T Police a 1-0 triumph over neighbours Queen’s Park Cricket Club.
The other match between Bethel United and Defence Force carded for Montgomery recreation ground, Tobago was postponed. Today, the Tier II Division will continue with four matches from 3.30 pm.
