LI­MA, Pe­ru – For the first time in its his­to­ry, the Pan Amer­i­can Games will fea­ture the sport of crick­et when it is held in 2027.

The de­ci­sion was tak­en fol­low­ing a re­cent Panam Sports Ex­ec­u­tive Board meet­ing, in which crick­et was se­lect­ed as one of 36 sports that will be in­clud­ed in the con­ti­nen­tal event, sched­uled to be held from Ju­ly 16 to Au­gust 1, 2027.

Thir­ty-three of the sports were cho­sen ac­cord­ing to the pref­er­ences of the 41 Na­tion­al Olympic Com­mit­tees that form the Panam Sports or­gan­i­sa­tion, while the fi­nal three were se­lect­ed by the Li­ma 2027 or­gan­is­ers.

The list in­cludes Olympic sta­ples like ath­let­ics, swim­ming, gym­nas­tics, and foot­ball, as well as con­ti­nen­tal favourites such as base­ball, rug­by sev­ens, and surf­ing.

Skate­board­ing and sport climb­ing, two of the Olympic pro­gramme’s new­er ad­di­tions, make their re­turn.

“As Panam Sports we have tak­en a very im­por­tant step with the ap­proval of the 36 sports for Li­ma 2027.

“We fol­lowed a very de­mo­c­ra­t­ic process among all the Na­tion­al Olympic Com­mit­tees and to­day, the Ex­ec­u­tive Board has con­firmed the sports of the pro­gramme of our Pan Amer­i­can Games,” said the Pres­i­dent of Panam Sports, Neven Il­ic.

The Pan Am Games will bring to­geth­er more than 7,000 ath­letes from across the con­ti­nent for the largest mul­ti­sport event in the re­gion.
