For­mer T&T se­nior crick­et team cap­tain Theo Cuffy was ho­n­oured by the gov­ern­ment of Cay­man Is­lands at their an­nu­al He­roes Day cel­e­bra­tion at He­roes Square Cay­man Is­lands on Mon­day.

The event at­tend­ed by all gov­ern­ment mem­bers, in­clud­ing act­ing Gov­er­nor Franz Man­der­son, and Cuffy re­ceive the pres­ti­gious award for his long and mer­i­to­ri­ous ser­vice in the field of crick­et. The for­mer hard hit­ting mid­dle or­der bats­man has been work­ing in that part of the re­gion for the past 22 years.

This year the he­roes day cel­e­bra­tion fo­cused on sports. Al­so ac­knowl­edged for his con­tri­bu­tion was an­oth­er for­mer na­tion­al baket­ball play­er Vic­tor 'Voot' Og­a­r­ro, who has been that coun­try's Tech­ni­cal di­rec­tor of bas­ket­ball for al­most two decades. O'Gar­ro is from Point Fortin.

Mean­while, Cuffy, who hails from Preysal in Cou­va al­so served as T&T Se­nior team and West In­dies A team coach as well as the West In­dies women's out­fit. In the field of sport ad­min­is­tra­tion Cuffy gave yoe­man ser­vice as Pres­i­dent of the Sec­ondary Schools Crick­et League (SS­CL) and al­so as a mem­ber of the T&T Crick­et Board.

In ac­cept­ing the award Cuffy said he was deeply hum­bled and proud to have had such an hon­or be­stowed up­on him. He paid trib­ute to his fam­i­ly and his friends in T&T.
