Former T&T senior cricket team captain Theo Cuffy was honoured by the government of Cayman Islands at their annual Heroes Day celebration at Heroes Square Cayman Islands on Monday.
The event attended by all government members, including acting Governor Franz Manderson, and Cuffy receive the prestigious award for his long and meritorious service in the field of cricket. The former hard hitting middle order batsman has been working in that part of the region for the past 22 years.
This year the heroes day celebration focused on sports. Also acknowledged for his contribution was another former national baketball player Victor 'Voot' Ogarro, who has been that country's Technical director of basketball for almost two decades. O'Garro is from Point Fortin.
Meanwhile, Cuffy, who hails from Preysal in Couva also served as T&T Senior team and West Indies A team coach as well as the West Indies women's outfit. In the field of sport administration Cuffy gave yoeman service as President of the Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) and also as a member of the T&T Cricket Board.
In accepting the award Cuffy said he was deeply humbled and proud to have had such an honor bestowed upon him. He paid tribute to his family and his friends in T&T.
