Star cyclist Nicholas Paul and veteran women's cricketer Anisa Mohammed will lead the 50-member TeamTTO delegation confirmed by the T&T Olympic Committee (TTOC) yesterday, for the nation's historic debut at the Bolivarian Games in Ayacucho, Lima, Peru from November 22 - December 7.
Paul, a leading track sprinter, will be one of 32 athletes competing for TeamTTO across the three sports including cycling, men's and women's cricket, and surfing. He will be joined by fellow cyclist Makaira Wallace. Elisha Greene (coach/mechanic) and Ian Cole (manager) will support the cycling duo.
The 50-member T&T delegation (32 athletes and 18 officials) comprises athletes, coaches, medical personnel, and support staff.
Mohammed will feature in the 14-member women's team, which will also have the experienced Karishma Ramharack, Shania Abdool, and Britney Cooper included. Their coaching and management team includes legendary cricketer and coach Merissa Aguilleira and manager Marjorie Thomas.
The 15-man squad includes Vikash Mohan, Andrew Rambaran, Crystian Thurton, and Daniel Williams. Officials include coaches Keston Harrypersad and Earnil Ryan, manager Omar Khan, and assistant manager Adrian Ali.
Aiden Albada will represent T&T in the surfing event, accompanied by Edward Albada (manager/coach).
Leading the delegation is the TTOC’s experienced Chef de Mission Lovie Santana-Duke, supported by administrative personnel Jariel Mc Collin and press attaché Kira Alexander. The medical staff includes Chief Medical Officer Dr Shakti Ramsawak, physiotherapist Demi Guevara, and massage therapist Brent Elder.
Chef de Mission Santana-Duke said: “It is an honour to lead T&T’s first-ever delegation to the Bolivarian Games. This moment represents far more than participation; it reflects the commitment of our athletes, the dedication of their support teams, and the pride of our nation. We are stepping onto a new stage with confidence, discipline, and unity, and I am proud of the exceptional group of athletes and officials who will represent our country.”
A Strategic debut for Olympic preparation
President of the TTOC, Diane Henderson, added: “This is a landmark moment for Trinidad and Tobago sport. Our athletes will have the opportunity to compete on a new international stage and gain invaluable experience in particular our cricket teams vying to qualify for the LA28 Olympics, as they prepare for future regional and global competitions. We commend their dedication and look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success.”
Participation in the Bolivarian Games provides invaluable competitive experience for national athletes, particularly within sports where regional depth strengthens international readiness. Importantly, it also aligns with T&T’s broader strategic preparations for the Pan American Games, which sit within the qualification structure for future Olympic participation.
Of particular note, the emergence of cricket as a returning Olympic sport at Los Angeles 2028 underscores the importance of international multi-sport exposure. The Bolivarian Games and the Pan American Games may play a meaningful role in the competitive readiness and ranking structures that will influence the Caribbean’s prospects for Olympic representation in cricket.
About the Bolivarian Games
The Games are a regional multi-sport event established in 1938 to honour the legacy of Simón Bolívar, the Venezuelan military and political leader who played a pivotal role in the independence of several South American nations. Created by the Bolivarian Sports Organisation (ODEBO), the Games promote unity, friendship, and athletic excellence among the countries liberated by Bolívar.
Over time, the event has expanded to welcome associate members and invited nations, reflecting deepened cooperation and inclusion across the region. Held every four years, the Games feature a diverse range of Olympic and non-Olympic sports and serve as an important platform for emerging athletes.
T&T will join four of its Caribbean neighbours in participating in the 2025 edition, marking growing regional ties and collaboration as the nations prepare to meet on the shores of Lima.
