A new champion will be crowned when the curtain comes down on the Harvard Sports Club April Fest Windball (8 overs) Cricket Tournament after defending champion Not Jus Fun was beaten in its quarterfinal match by D Drinks Spot at the Harvard Sports Club, 106 Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain, on Friday night.
Batting first, D Drinks Spot posted a challenging 33 for the loss of nine wickets in eight overs at the crease with James Sooknarine hitting a top score of ten while Nashawn Lutchman chipped in with five, and Joshua Millien three.
For Not Jus Fun, Dion Rampaul was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for one run from his two overs, and Marcus Chandool and Anthony George claimed one each for two and eight runs, respectively.
However, in reply, the short-handed Not Jus Fun was restricted to 25 runs all out in six overs with Tyrell Mollineau and Stefon Bissoon the main contributors with six and four runs, respectively while Virinda Boodram led the tight bowling for D Drinks Spot with two wickets for only on run conceded from his two overs while Lutchman and 'Player of the Match' Sooknarine took one wicket each as they won by eight runs.
In tomorrow's semifinal, D Drinks Spot will meet D Crushers won swept past Friends 4 Life by 12 runs in Friday's second quarterfinal.
D Crushers took first turn at the crease and tallied 38 for the loss of nine wickets led by Vinod Mack's ten runs, Sahindra Ramdeo with eighth, and Adesh Ramsumair, four before they bowled out Friends 4 Life for 26 runs inspired by the 'Player of the match' Dillon Sankar's three wickets for one run.
The second semifinal on Friday will see Travellers up against Universal Flippers for a place in Saturday's final.
In last Saturday's quarterfinals, Travellers amassed 29 for the loss of nine wickets in eight overs and then held their nerve to keep Hit List to 27 for the loss of seven wickets in eight overs to win by two runs thanks to 'Player of the match', Davaughn Gibson two wickets for three runs.
In the final quarterfinal, Universal Flippers made 35 all out in eight overs with the trio of Kevon Ramdhanie, Dexter Ramdhanie and Mario Jack all scoring a team-high four runs each while Sunil Khan (2/4), Vishal Persad (2/3) and Adrian Joseph (1/3) were the main wicket takers for Ban From D' Park.
However, in their run chase, Ban From D'Park fell short at 26 for the loss of nine wickets in eight overs.
