De­fence Force on Thurs­day (June 19) moved to the knock-out round of the T&T Women's Foot­ball League (WoLF) with a con­vinc­ing 4-0 thrash­ing of Club San­do WFC, last year's League win­ners in the Trinidad leg of the com­pe­ti­tion.

The match played at the De­fence Force Re­serve Ground in Ch­aguara­mas saw for­mer na­tion­al strik­er Aaliyah Prince, her name­sake Den­necia Prince, Tsai-Anne Fer­nan­dez and school­girl sen­sa­tion Niki­ta Go­sine all get­ting on the score­sheet.

With 37 points and a match in hand, the De­fence Force need­ed to win to achieve an unas­sail­able ad­van­tage over their coun­ter­parts (Club San­do), who en­tered the match on 36 points. The win has now pushed the Army to 40 points and out of the reach of any oth­er team.

Club San­do will face Diego Mar­tin Cen­tral next week, while the Army Coast-Guard Com­bi­na­tion team will face Trinci­ty Na­tion­als in their last match.

The match-up be­tween the teams comes mere days af­ter a 1-1 tie be­tween them in the fi­nal of the San Fer­nan­do May­or's Cup at Skin­ner Park, San Fer­nan­do, be­fore the De­fence Force even­tu­al­ly pre­vailed 4-3 from the penal­ty spot.

In oth­er match­es, Po­lice whipped AIA, 5-0 and the Uni­ver­si­ty of T&T (UTT) won af­ter Diego Mar­tin Cen­tral for­feit­ed. The match be­tween Point Pi­o­neers and Trinci­ty Na­tion­als did not play be­cause Trinci­ty dropped out the League.

At the end of the league round-robin phase the sec­ond, third and fourth-placed teams from the Trinidad Group will con­test the quar­ter­fi­nals along with the sec­ond-placed team in the To­ba­go Group.
