KINGSTON, Jamaica– Jamaica’s double Carifta gold medallist Shanoya Douglas set the track ablaze in the 200 metres over the weekend on her way to clocking the fastest women’s Under-18 time in the world this year.
Competing on Sunday’s third and final day of the Jamaica Carifta trials, Douglas crossed the finish line in a world-leading U-18 time of 22.58 seconds to capture the sprint double at the event.
The 18-year-old, who also sped to an impressive personal best of 11.06 in the 100m on Friday, lowered her personal best in the 200m, while registering the fourth fastest time amongst seniors in the world.
She finished well clear of Natrece East of Wolmer’s Girls, who finished second in 23.48 seconds to book her spot at next month’s Carifta Games, while Kimberly Wright of Immaculate Conception was third in 24.24.
Douglas won both the U-20 girls’ 100m and the 200m at last year’s Carifta Games, which were held in Trinidad and Tobago and also captured bronze in the 200m at the 2024 World Athletics U-20 Championships.
It continues her impressive start to the year, which has already seen Douglas break the Jamaican national junior indoor record in the 300m (36.98 seconds), while also setting a personal best of 52.60 seconds in the 400m.
