FC Maloney Eagles and Malabar Young Stars will go into their respective final matches in Sunday's last round of the ten-team Eastern Football Association (EFA) Premier Division, both with a chance to secure the $25,000 winners’ prize after.
As it stands, FC Maloney Eagles lead the table with 22 points from nine matches with a healthy goal-difference of plus-23 while Young Stars sit a point behind with a goal-difference of plus-24.
However, while Eagles will face the easy task of facing cellar-placed Zebulun FC, yet to earn a point this season at Eddie Hart Ground, Tunapuna from 5 pm in the first match of a double-header, Young Stars meets third-placed CG Poseidon at the Malabar Recreation Ground from 6 pm.
A win for Eagles will secure the title, while anything less than three points will leave the door open for Young Stars to secure the crown.
The runners-up in the league will receive $15,000, and the third placed finishers which will be determined between CG Poseidon, Creek S.C.C, and Heatwave, the latter of whom has a match in hand will take home $10,000.
The race for the EFA top scorers' title is also up for grabs with Trincity Nationals' Jiron Francis out front with 12 goals from eight matches, two ahead of Malabar Young Stars' Terrell Neptune while former T&T striker Nathan Lewis of Eagles has nine, CG Poseidon's Lejean Lezama eight, and the pair of Eagles players' Teryke Johnson, and Kervyn Coa, seven each.
