E-Z Lines clinched the National 501 League of Darts A division title on the final day hosted by the T&T Darts Association (TTDA) on April 22 at No 36 New Street, Port-of-Spain.

The evening started with De Original Gameshot (DOGS) in first place with 60 points, E-Z Lines in second with 57 points, Drifters third with 56 points and Jus For Fun, fourth with 54 points.

The mission for the top four teams was simple, secure a big win to guarantee the title. E-Z Lines have been pushed very hard this season but once again they showed their domination of this league is no blip or product of luck. E-Z Lines took on relegation-bound Sea Wolves in a must-win match-up and not just win but only a 10-0 scoreline would surely win them the title.

The encounter started at a blistering pace with E-Z lines up 4-0. There were a few scares in the singles but they managed to clean sweep that round and got to their goal of 10-0 and it was just to wait on the other results.

DOGS had the difficult task of taking on Drifters. In past seasons, DOGS usually are the only challengers but to the credit of Drifters, they have been in great form this season pushing all the teams around them in their pursuit of a league title. The contest started in favour of Drifters as they sped into a 3-1 lead knowing a massive win would have helped them secure the title but DOGS put up a fight in the singles round taking away vital points from Drifters. The contest ended in favour of Drifters but they only managed to win 6-4 which was only enough to see them finish fourth. Meanwhile, DOGS finished in second place overall.

Jus For Fun Vikings finished third after an impressive 8-2 win over Scorpions.

Pub House Pirates emerge B Division champion

Pub House Pirates are the National 501 League of Darts B Division champions and secured promotion to the A Division. The Pirates were almost certain of glory but had to secure a win against newcomers Mucurapo Musketeers and hope that other results went in their favour. The Pirates raced to a resounding 8-2 victory crowing them champions of the division. Bullz I produced a great come-from-behind victory at the expense of close rivals Shanghai Bulls reeling from 3-1 down they rallied to to a 6-4 victory that propelled them to two and clinching promotion to the A Division.

Jus For Fun Snipers narrowly missed on promotion by one point even though they put in a commanding 7-3 victory over Random Squad it was not enough in the end. The TTDA experimented with a post-season play-off style tournament using the top four teams of the A division E-Z Lines vs Drifters and Jus For Fun vs DOGS. E-Z Lines defeated Drifters 13-6, and Jus For Fun Vikings upset DOGS. 13-7. E-Z Lines and Jus For Fun squared off in the final with Jus For Fun winning 14-5 in the first experimental playoff-style post-season tournament Cup.

Vikings lead Mixed Format League of Darts

A week later the teams were back in action competing in the TTDA's Mixed Format League of Darts. The league is split into three divisions - A, B and C - with one team being promoted and one team being demoted.

Defending champions E-Z Lines were once again off to a difficult start to their campaign after two drawn results leaving them in fourth place after two match days. Jus For Fun Vikings are in first place on 13 points after one win and one defeat. Drifters are in second spot with 12 points after one draw and one victory. DOGS are third with 11 points after one win and one draw.

Scorpions were demoted to the B division and are at the top of the table after two clinical victories leaving them on 16 points. In the C Division, Flighted Friends lead the pack with 15 points after registering two victories.

Match-day three was scheduled to be played yesterday.

Seales, Ramcharan take Mixed Format knockout titles

Zack Seales and Karen Ramcharan emerged as the winners in a straight knockout-style format on May 6. This tournament acted as the curtain raiser for all new seasons and features a men's and women's category. They were among the 46 men and 13 women, taking part.

The top names were present Karen Ramcharan Kimberli Rivas, James Walklin, and Joshua Balfour. The semifinals of the women's category did reflect the top women of the nation semifinal one was Rivas vs Nicole Lee-A-Ping and semifinal two was Karen Ramcharan vs Petricia Messiah.

Rivas dispatched Nicole Lee- A-Ping 2-0 meanwhile Ramcharan had to battle her way to the finals after narrowly defeating Petricia Messiah 2-1. The final was set between Rivas and Ramcharan. The first leg was 501 with Ramcharan picking up the first leg after taking out double 8.

Ramcharan won the second leg which was mickey mouse, needing just one more leg for victory which was another leg of Mickey Mouse. Rivas put up a tough fight trying to pull one leg back but Ramcharan kept her nerves needing two bullz-eyes to win closed off the bull, to be crowned the mixed format women’s Open champion. The men's bracket was very exciting with all eyes on the progress of Balfour and Walklin.

Balfour made a great start to the tournament get past the opening rounds to make it to the quarterfinals, Walklin also eased his way to the quarterfinals on the other side of the bracket. Both gentlemen seemed destined to meet up in the finals however a dark horse in the form of Zack Seales had other plans as he made his way through very difficult opponents to see his way to the quarterfinals where he would face Walkin in what was an impressive display by Seales winning 2-0. Balfour got pass Roger Maraj 2-0. Both Balfour and Seales were able to get past their semifinal opponents to set up what would be a very entertaining final most bets were on Seales as he had the most difficult side of the bracket and was clearly in great form but Balfour himself, was in great domestic form.

Seales took the first leg but then Blafour won two legs unanswered. However, Seales put in a brilliant come-from-behind performance to win 3-2 clinching his first-ever Open title to be crowned the national Open mixed format champion.
