Goals from Jonathan Ma­son and Je­re­mai Nan­ton en­sured that Fa­ti­ma Col­lege kept their po­si­tion at the top of the 16-team stand­ings in the Pre­mier Di­vi­sion of the Sec­ondary Schools Foot­ball League (SS­FL) with 22 points, when they de­feat­ed Queen’s Roy­al Col­lege (QRC) at home on Mu­cu­rapo Road in Port-of-Spain on Sat­ur­day.

But they have now be­gun a bat­tle for the top spot with pre­vi­ous lead­ers, Na­pari­ma Col­lege, who came back to the field and de­mol­ished their coun­ter­parts, St Au­gus­tine Sec­ondary, 8-0 at their Lewis Street, San Fer­nan­do home.

The post­pone­ment of the Naps ver­sus St Bene­dict’s Col­lege match on Oc­to­ber 8 en­abled the Mu­cu­rapo Road-based team to as­sume the top spot with a vic­to­ry over San Juan North. Na­pari­ma, a mul­ti­ple-time win­ner of the South Zone League and In­ter­Col ti­tles, pro­duced a no-non­sense per­for­mance, fir­ing eight goals past the once dead­ly East team, known as "The Green Ma­chine". Aaron Ray­mond, the broth­er of na­tion­al de­fend­er An­dre Ray­mond, led the way with a brace.

Apart from Ray­mond, Na­pari­ma al­so got goals from Eli­jah Ed­wards, Jabari Ro­driguez, Jer­rel Coop­er, Jay­den Ca­pri­et­ta, Se­bas­t­ian James, and Riquelme Phillips. Man­ag­er Per­cy Sam­lals­ingh said his team was flaw­less in the af­ter­noon.

Mean­while, Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege, San Fer­nan­do stum­bled against Sig­nal Hill but stays in con­tention for the top spot on 18 points. At their home at the Man­nie Ramjohn Sta­di­um in Union, Mara­bel­la, a pow­er­ful Pre­sen­ta­tion was ex­pect­ed to claim the three points, but they re­ceived a ma­jor shock when a lone strike from Em­manuel Wright stopped the South­ern­ers in their tracks.

De­spite the re­sult, ‘Pres’ still kept third on the stand­ings with 18 points, while Fa­ti­ma and Na­pari­ma Col­lege con­tin­ue to hold the top two po­si­tions.

Mean­while, South­ern ri­vals St Bene­dict’s Col­lege shook off a con­cern about whether they would have school­boy sen­sa­tion Der­rel "Zoom Zoom" Gar­cia back on their ros­ter for the rest of the sea­son, when they de­feat­ed Ari­ma North Sec­ondary 2-0 at Ma­haica Sport­ing Com­plex in Point Fortin. Eli­jah David and Josi­ah Ochoa did the trick to shut out the 'Di­al Dy­namos" of Ari­ma for max­i­mum points.

‘Zoom Zoom’ Gar­cia, who was out of the coun­try play­ing foot­ball in the Guyana Foot­ball League, on loan from San Juan Jabloteh, re­turned home on Thurs­day morn­ing and blanked all at­tempts for him to play for the ‘La Ro­main Li­ons’ for the rest of the sea­son. ‘Zoom Zoom’ Gar­cia made it clear he does not want to play in the SS­FL and prefers to play in Tier I of the T&T Pre­mier Foot­ball League, which gets go­ing lat­er this month.
