National swimmer Zuri Ferguson secured individual silver and bronze medals to help the University of Florida ‘Gators’ to a 179-119 win over host Auburn University at the James E Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Alabama, on Friday (January 16).
The win helped the Gators close the SEC dual competition with 3-0 records to head into next month’s SEC Championships undefeated.
The USA-based Ferguson raced to a silver medal in the women’s 200-yard backstroke in an NCAA ‘B’ standard time of one minute, 56.10 seconds, to finish behind teammate Catie Choate’s winning time of one minute, 50.66, with Jo Jo Ramey completing the sweep for the Gators in one minute, 56.59 seconds.
Ferguson, in his first full year as a Gator, touched the wall in 52.75 seconds after splits of 25.50 and 27.25 to take the bronze medal spot behind Choate, who won in 51.95, with Auburn University’s Lora Komoroczy second on 52.26.
Up next, the Gators return to action following a bye week to face in-state rival Florida State on Friday, January. 30 at the Florida Aquatics Swimming Training Center in Ocala, Florida, USA.
