Pacer Terrence Hinds snapped up four KFC Clarke Road wickets in the opening session to help Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) secure a first-innings lead of 104 on Day One of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Premier One match at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain, Saturday.
In a fiery spell, the right-arm pacer, who has played two T20 Internationals for the West Indies, ran through the Clarke Road top order after Tion Webster removed Barbadian Shian Brathwaite for seven with the score on nine. Following Brathwaite’s dismissal, the “Terrence Hinds Show” began; he took four wickets to devastate a Clarke Road side missing Nicholas Pooran.
Clarke Road plummeted to 45 for five in 10.5 overs and never fully recovered. Hinds’ victims included Vikash Mohan (4), Nicholas Sookdeosingh (7), Mark Deyal (17), and Yannick Ottley (0). When he was finished, Hinds finished his spell, spinner Sunil Narine took over, claiming three wickets for just five runs. Queen’s Park bowling unit was an all-Red Force attack, with Bryan Charles, Khary Pierre, Yannic Cariah, and Mikkel Govia, the other bowlers used.
Former Parkite Dexter Sween was Clarke Road’s best batsman with a top score of 28, while Anderson Mahase added 19 as the pair staged a mini-recovery. Clarke Road were eventually bowled out for 114 in 33.4 overs. By the close of play, Queen’s Park closed on 218 for five, spearheaded by 93 from Jyd Goolie and 66 from Kyle Ramdoo.
In Syne Village, Penal, Jeremy Solozano followed up Cephas Cooper’s hundred last week with a knock of 102 for Powergen against Prisons. The out-of-favour West Indies batsman struck 13 fours and a solitary six in his 176-ball innings. Cooper’s good form continued with 87 as the duo shared a 152-run stand. Jason Mohammed, who struggled last week, made amends with a brisk 78, including 12 fours and a six. Aggressive middle-order batsman Dejourn Charles hit an unbeaten 61 before Powergen declared at 355 for five. At stumps, Prisons were 18 without loss.
In Cunjal, Central Sports Yorkshire hold the upper hand against a Merryboys team still reeling from last week’s drubbing by QPCC. Merryboys were bowled out for 105 in 43.3 overs, with Samuel Roopnarine taking 4-20 and Aneal Rooplal grabbing three scalps (3-27). In reply, Central Sports Yorkshire closed day one on 153 for six with Riyaad Mohammed on 47 not out. Akeel Mohammed scored 55.
At Charlieville, it was a run-fest as Bess Motors Marchin Patriots reached 284 for five in just 37 overs in reply to Victoria’s 196. Kamil Pooran hammered 11 fours and five sixes in his 84, while Evin Lewis struck a “slow” 69 from 59 balls, featuring three fours and six sixes. Earlier, Ricky Jaipaul was the star with the ball for the Patriots, taking 6-41.
