Fire Service ended the 2020 Courts All Sectors Netball League on a high when they captured both the Championship Division Knockout and Courts Open Division Knockout titles on the final day of competition at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Tunapuna on Saturday.
However, the tournament which was extended by three months due to the stop in all sporting activities due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic ended in anti-climax with Fire Service walking away with the Championship Division knockout title without breaking a sweat after scheduled opponent, Jabloteh, failed to produce a full team.
In the Courts Open Division knockout, Fire Service had to take the court but still came away with a 31-18 victory over Telecommunication Service of T&T (TSTT).
Keon Russell was the main scorer for Fire Service with 19 goals from 32 attempts, while former national shooter Simone Morgan added seven from 14, David Ormsby was perfect from his three efforts and Adasha Norton nailed her two attempts as well.
For TSTT, Chantael Perry-Mc Ewen had a team-high nine goals from 15 attempts, Jocelyn Marcelle scored five from seven and Kanika Paul-Payne four of five.
Earlier in the semifinal, Fire Service registered a 28-18 triumph over long-time rivals, Police and TSTT won by default from Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) Sparks.
Russell led the way for Fire Service with 21 goals from 29 attempts and Morgan chipped in with seven from 13 attempts while Steve Mc Sween got 13 from 15 attempts, and Fabrice Fisher, five from nine for Police in the loss.
In the revised awards ceremony, Fire Service shooter Joelisa Cooper was named the Most Valuable Player of the league and also was the top shooter in the Premiership Division with a shooting accuracy of 90.38 per cent. Her Fire unit was also the best shooting team with 78 per cent.
