Fire Ser­vice end­ed the 2020 Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League on a high when they cap­tured both the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion Knock­out and Courts Open Di­vi­sion Knock­out ti­tles on the fi­nal day of com­pe­ti­tion at the Dr Joao Have­lange Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence, Ma­coya, Tu­na­puna on Sat­ur­day.

How­ev­er, the tour­na­ment which was ex­tend­ed by three months due to the stop in all sport­ing ac­tiv­i­ties due to the coro­n­avirus (COVID-19) pan­dem­ic end­ed in an­ti-cli­max with Fire Ser­vice walk­ing away with the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion knock­out ti­tle with­out break­ing a sweat af­ter sched­uled op­po­nent, Jabloteh, failed to pro­duce a full team.

In the Courts Open Di­vi­sion knock­out, Fire Ser­vice had to take the court but still came away with a 31-18 vic­to­ry over Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion Ser­vice of T&T (TSTT).

Keon Rus­sell was the main scor­er for Fire Ser­vice with 19 goals from 32 at­tempts, while for­mer na­tion­al shoot­er Si­mone Mor­gan added sev­en from 14, David Orms­by was per­fect from his three ef­forts and Adasha Nor­ton nailed her two at­tempts as well.

For TSTT, Chan­tael Per­ry-Mc Ewen had a team-high nine goals from 15 at­tempts, Jo­ce­lyn Mar­celle scored five from sev­en and Kani­ka Paul-Payne four of five.

Ear­li­er in the semi­fi­nal, Fire Ser­vice reg­is­tered a 28-18 tri­umph over long-time ri­vals, Po­lice and TSTT won by de­fault from Unit Trust Cor­po­ra­tion (UTC) Sparks.

Rus­sell led the way for Fire Ser­vice with 21 goals from 29 at­tempts and Mor­gan chipped in with sev­en from 13 at­tempts while Steve Mc Sween got 13 from 15 at­tempts, and Fab­rice Fish­er, five from nine for Po­lice in the loss.

In the re­vised awards cer­e­mo­ny, Fire Ser­vice shoot­er Joelisa Coop­er was named the Most Valu­able Play­er of the league and al­so was the top shoot­er in the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion with a shoot­ing ac­cu­ra­cy of 90.38 per cent. Her Fire unit was al­so the best shoot­ing team with 78 per cent.

Their out­stand­ing shoot­ing dis­play as well tough de­fence helped the fire of­fi­cers sweep all com­pe­ti­tions in the top di­vi­sion, the round-robin League, Steve Sar­jeant Chal­lenge and Knock­out.
