One man is as­sist­ing po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors af­ter an at­tack on for­mer Min­is­ter of Sports Manohar Ram­saran yes­ter­day in Cunu­pia. The 73-year-old pres­i­dent of the Munroe Road Crick­et Club was tak­ing his morn­ing walk just af­ter six o’clock when he was at­tacked near the club.

Dur­ing the at­tack, the for­mer UNC and COP politi­cian sus­tained sev­er­al in­juries, in­clud­ing one to his head and a bro­ken hand. He was tak­en to the Mt Hope Hos­pi­tal where he is be­ing treat­ed. Doc­tors rec­om­mend­ed surgery for the long-stand­ing mem­ber of the crick­et club.

Ac­cord­ing to the chair­man of the crick­et club, UNC Coun­cil­lor Samuel Sankar, the at­tack­er is some­one who sleeps and spends time at the crick­et club­house and was once re­moved from the com­pound by the po­lice.

“Mr Ram­saran has a lot of sup­port and prayers com­ing in from a num­ber of peo­ple,” Sankar said, “and the crick­et com­mu­ni­ty as well.”

Sankar added that Ram­saran is in se­ri­ous pain but praised the health­care work­ers for their work.
