One man is assisting police investigators after an attack on former Minister of Sports Manohar Ramsaran yesterday in Cunupia. The 73-year-old president of the Munroe Road Cricket Club was taking his morning walk just after six o’clock when he was attacked near the club.
During the attack, the former UNC and COP politician sustained several injuries, including one to his head and a broken hand. He was taken to the Mt Hope Hospital where he is being treated. Doctors recommended surgery for the long-standing member of the cricket club.
According to the chairman of the cricket club, UNC Councillor Samuel Sankar, the attacker is someone who sleeps and spends time at the cricket clubhouse and was once removed from the compound by the police.
“Mr Ramsaran has a lot of support and prayers coming in from a number of people,” Sankar said, “and the cricket community as well.”
Sankar added that Ramsaran is in serious pain but praised the healthcare workers for their work.
