All four T&T teams enjoyed triumphant outings when matches in the second edition of the International Tennis Federation/Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean (ITF/COTECC) Sub Region Four Under-12 Development Team Championship continued at the National Racquet Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua, on Tuesday.
In the Girls’ competition, the T&T I team of Abba Campbell-Smith, Makeda Bain and Cyra Ramcharan followed up their 3-0 defeat of the T&T II team of Karissa Mohammed, Cherdine Sylvester, and Suri-Ann Mohammed with a similar 3-0 beating of Guyana to improve to a record of 2-0 in the six-team round-robin series and matches left to play against Grenada today, followed by St Lucia tomorrow (on Thursday), and Aruba on Friday.
Campbell-Smith fired T&T into a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three tie courtesy of her 6-0, 6-2 beating of Kimora Erskine while Bain, the recent winner of the Sagicor Under-14 crown steamrolled Niomi Erskine 6-1, 6-0 before Bain and Ramcharan (C) swept past the Erskine sisters, 6-0, 6-1 in the Doubles for a 3-0 triumph.
The T&T II girls rebounded from their opening day loss to the countrywomen by brushing aside Grenada 3-0 with Mohammed blanking Janiyah Lewis 6-0, 6-0; Sylvester trashing Anabelle Stanislaus 6-0, 6-0 and Mohammed, and Suri-Ann Ramcharan 6-1, 6-1 winners over Lewis, and Stanislaus in the Doubles, and will meet Aruba today before facing Guyana on Thursday, and St Lucia on Friday.
The local boys’ teams of Jack Brown, Josiah Hills, and Jacob Jacelon (T&T I), and the T&T II trio of Oliver Harragin, Christopher Khan, and Sebastien Plimmer won their respective clashes with US Virgin Islands in Group B, and St Lucia in Group C, by similar 3-0 margins to reach the semifinal stage as group winners.
Against USVI, Brown slammed Alden Richards 6-0, 6-0; Hills outplayed Henry Collins 6-0, 7-5 and Hills and Jacelon stopped Collins and Richards 6-0, 6-2, and in the other match, Harragin toppled St Lucian Sanjay Lake 6-2, 6-3; Khan topped Denney Estava 6-4, 6-1, and the pair of Harragin, and Khan stopped Estava, and Lake, 7-5, 7-6(1) in the Doubles.
In the other matches, Barbados defeated Curacao 3-0 to end at the top of Group A with a 2-0 record, while Curacao ended in the second spot at 1-1, and Grenada, 0-2 for the cellar spot.
