April Fran­cis and David Schweitzer shared the ho­n­ours in the 2024 edi­tion of the Sco­tia­bank Women Against Breast Can­cer 5K af­ter they were vic­to­ri­ous in the women’s and men’s cat­e­gories, which took place at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah on Sat­ur­day.

Fran­cis clocked 21 min­utes and 57 sec­onds for her sec­ond Sco­tia 5K vic­to­ry to fin­ish ahead of Ce­line Lesteade (22.36), while Re­nee Mac Lean (23.40) round­ed off the top three women fin­ish­ers.

The oth­er cat­e­go­ry win­ners were Kyra Kirk (U19), Abi­gail Soodoo (20-29), Lau­ra Narayans­ingh (30-39), Aliya Nurse (40-49), Kim Gomez (50-59), and Celia Prime (over 60).

Schweitzer topped the men’s field with a time of 16 min­utes and 31 sec­onds.

This is on­ly the sec­ond year that males have been al­lowed to com­pete.

The hall­mark event for Sco­tia­bank was sold out one week ahead of race day and saw 5000 run­ners, walk­ers, and jog­gers, all seek­ing to play their part in a na­tion­al ef­fort to help raise and sus­tain aware­ness for breast can­cer and the im­por­tance of ear­ly screen­ing. Now in its 24th year, the SWABC 5K al­so at­tract­ed 500 male par­tic­i­pants who joined in show­ing their sup­port for the cause. To date, over 22,000 women have ben­e­fit­ted from can­cer screen­ing ser­vices be­cause of the sup­port of the event’s many reg­is­trants and spon­sors over the years.
