T&T's Tyra Gittens leaped to second place in the women's high jump event at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, which unfolded over the weekend at the Leid Recreation Centre in Ames, Iowa in the United States.
Gittens, who at the beginning of the indoor season transferred from Texas A&M to the University of Texas at Austin, copped a silver medal in the high jump at a clearance of 1.84 metres.
The 2020 Toyko Olympian and senior student-athlete also competed in the long jump and placed fifth with a 6.29m-leap.
Fellow Olympian Dwight St Hillaire of the University of Kentucky (UK) also featured in two events at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station in Texas, USA on Friday and Saturday.
The UK senior clocked 46.10 seconds in the men's 400m and placed sixth overall in the timed finals. He advanced from the preliminary heats with the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 46.50.
St Hilliare did not leave empty-handed though as he ran the third leg in the 4x400m relay, to help Kentucky place third with a time of 3:04.04.
South Florida senior Joshua St Clair also came away with a relay medal at the American Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama. The T&T quarter-miler ran the second leg to see his team take silver in the men's 4x400m relay with 3:14.47.
St Clair also faced the starter in the 400m and he placed ninth with a 49.04-timing and did not progress out of the preliminary round. He was also in the line-up for the distance medley relay, again running the second leg, as his team finished seventh with a clocking of 10:30.40.
Lone Star Conference in Lubbock, Texas, Jalen Purcell of West Texas A&M was an eighth-place finisher in the men's 60m with a time of 7.02, much slower than his 6.77 which he produced in the preliminary heats, the fifth-quickest qualifying time.
The sophomore lined up for the 200m but he unfortunately false-started.
Eastern Michigan senior Alisha St Louis was in action at the Mid-American Indoor Track & Field Championships in Kent, Ohio. She ended in 11th place in the women's triple jump event with her best leap, measuring 11.66m.
At the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship, Northern Iowa sophomore Onal Mitchell placed 17th in the men's 400m with a 50.64-clocking while at the Big Ten Championships in Geneva, Ohio, Ianna Roach of Iowa placed 22nd in the women's shot put with 14.42m. The former junior "Sportswoman of the Year" registered a foul in the first round and then got to a 13.75m-mark on the second throw.
