KANSAS, United States – Trinidad and Tobago long jumper, Tyra Gittens-Spotsville produced a record-breaking leap on her way to capturing gold at the K-State Deloss Dodds Invitational event over the weekend.
Gittens-Spotsville leapt 6.83 metres with her fourth jump to secure gold in the event, improving on the 6.70m Trinidad and Tobago indoor record she had established in the previous round.
The 27-year-old opened the competition with a 6.55m jump and followed up with an effort measured at 6.50m. She then stepped up her game in round three, bettering her own 6.68m T&T indoor record.
However, the new mark did not last long, as Gittens-Spotsville improved on that record in emphatic fashion in the next round.
Following the 6.83m effort, she jumped 6.58m and then passed in the sixth and final round.
That performance leaves her fourth on the 2026 world indoor performance list. Italy’s Larissa Iapichino is the global leader at 6.93m, followed by American Sophia Beckmon (6.85m) and Portugal’s Agate De Sousa (6.84m).
It is the second-best jump of the US-based athlete’s career, bettered only by the 6.96 national outdoor record she established in 2021.
