Jahiem Har­ry, William Fran­cis and Hec­tor Sam were the "Most Valu­able Play­ers" of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Bas­ket­ball Com­mis­sion's All Stars Day, which cel­e­brat­ed the play­ers of the past, recog­nis­ing their con­tri­bu­tions to the sport.

Stars in all three di­vi­sions -First, Un­der-17 and Over-45 - com­pet­ed on the ex­cit­ing day at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty in Port-of-Spain on Sat­ur­day, and al­so par­tic­i­pat­ed in a shootout com­pe­ti­tion.

Ac­tion com­menced with a clash be­tween Team Wes­ley "Beast" Haynes, coached Mi­lan Sta­menkovic and Team Vib­ert "Pas­say" Dean, coached by Mor­gan Shade, in the U-17 Di­vi­sion. At the end of the first pe­ri­od, Team Dean led 23-10 and con­tin­ued to dom­i­nate their op­po­nents and were ahead 42-23 by the half. Af­ter the re­sump­tion, the sto­ry re­mained the same and Team Vib­ert even­tu­al­ly won the game 73-61. Fran­cis, who was named the MVP, was the top scor­er with 19 points.

Ac­tion in the shootout con­test fol­lowed next, which saw 12 par­tic­i­pants in the line-up.

Af­ter the pre­lim­i­nary round, the top four par­tic­i­pants, in­clud­ing Spar­tans TT duo Fran­cis and Idris Mar­tin and Adam Salazar and Caleb Fer­gu­son, both of Ba­sic B Acad­e­my, faced off. Salazar kept his com­po­sure to outscore his ri­vals, top­scor­ing with 33 points.

In the Over-45 Di­vi­sion match, Team Lin­coln "Crip­ple" Grif­fith faced off against Mar­vin Ce­les­tine-coached Team Re­shawn "Big Youth" Grant. Team Grif­fith, coached by An­cil Ol­livierre, dom­i­nat­ed from the start, lead­ing by 34-25 at the end of the half, led by their cen­tre La­nard Emanuel, who dic­tat­ed the pace of the game. Sam rolled back the years to top score with 23 points to earn the MVP ho­n­ours. He was ably as­sist­ed by David King, who con­tributed 15 points. Team Grif­fith even­tu­al­ly won the match-up, 65-43.

The fi­nal fix­ture of the evening saw a high-speed com­pet­i­tive fix­ture be­tween Team Kevin "Rob­bie" Roberts, coached by Wayne Sandy, and Team Trevor "Pla­to" Le­gendre, coached by Christo­pher Jack­son Charles, in the First Di­vi­sion All Stars clash. At the end of the first pe­ri­od, the score was 28-25 in favour of Team Le­gendre. The sec­ond pe­ri­od was much of the same, clos­ing 54-49 at the half with Team Le­gendre still ahead.

Af­ter the re­sump­tion, the teams were locked at 74 apiece at the end of the third pe­ri­od.

Even­tu­al­ly, Team Roberts pulled away to win the en­counter 98-95. Har­ry, who was named MVP, top­scored with 22 points.

Coach Charles was among the 25 for­mer play­ers ho­n­oured on the day. The NZBC pre­sent­ed them with to­kens of ap­pre­ci­a­tion.
