DALLAS – Akeal Hosein grabbed three wickets to help the Texas Super Kings secure a spot in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) playoffs with a dominant 39-run victory over MI New York here at the Grand Prairie Stadium in the United States on Sunday.
The left-arm spinner delivered a stingy spell of bowling, finishing with figures of 3-15 from his four overs, as MI New York were limited to 184 for nine in their 20 overs in pursuit of the Super Kings’ formidable total of 223 for four.
After being sent in to bat, Super Kings were led by a century from their captain Faf du Plessis and a blistering half century by Donovan Ferreira.
Du Plessis smashed an unbeaten 103 from 53 balls, inclusive of nine sixes and five fours, while Ferreira hit 53 from 20 balls with five sixes and three fours.
The two shared a partnership of 81 in just five overs, which ended when Ferreira was dismissed off the penultimate ball of the innings.
George Linde (2-42) and Rushil Ugarkar (2-47) were MI New York’s best bowlers.
Hosein then snared the wickets of Quinton de Kock for 35, Monank Patel (6) and Tajinder Singh for 15, while Nicholas Pooran made just six, to reduce MI New York to 75 for four after 10 overs.
Kieron Pollard tried his best to revive his team’s innings during a whirlwind knock of 70 from 39 balls that included five sixes and five fours, but it was never going to be enough.
Nandre Butcher (2-40) and Marcus Stoinis (2-43) took two wickets apiece for the Super Kings.
