Cham­pi­on train­er John O’Brien con­tin­ued his un­be­liev­able form, when he sad­dled three of the six win­ners on the Ari­ma Race Club’s (ARC) day six pro­gramme.

O’Brien who has been the cham­pi­on train­er for near­ly a decade and has sad­dled two ‘Triple Crown’ win­ners showed his mus­cle on Tues­day at San­ta Rosa Park, Ari­ma when he not on­ly land­ed three win­ners but won the fea­ture event on the day, the Ms In­deera De­ok­iesingh Guineas - the first leg of lo­cal rac­ing’s ‘Triple crown’.

The race lost much of its mean­ing when the 9-5 sec­ond favourite Fire­crack­er was with­drawn from the event just as the race was about to be sent off. This was dis­ap­point­ing for tur­fites, race fans and the bet­ting pub­lic.

The top con­di­tion­er had three hors­es in the fea­ture the 1-2 favourite, In The Head­lines, Blind­ing Lights (6-1) and An­gry Bird (5-1). Fol­low­ing these in the bet­ting were Harts Gap (19-1), The­o­ry of Colours and Afri­di (50-1) and Beep Beep which was backed at 60-1 in the sev­en-horse field.

When the starter sent the field on their way, An­gry Bird was the first to show from Harts Gap with the heav­i­ly backed favourite In The Head­lines track­ing. These were fol­lowed by Blind­ing Lights, Beep, The­o­ry of Colours and the trail­ing Afri­di.

Go­ing up the back-stretch, Harts Gap held a two-length lead from In The Head­lines who was al­lowed to move clos­er to the pace, these were fol­lowed by Blind­ing Lights and An­gry Bird. Beep Beep fol­lowed a length be­hind with The­o­ry of Colours be­ing rid­den along to keep pace as Afri­di ac­cept­ed his po­si­tion at the rear.

Com­ing to the far turn, Harts Gap still led but his lead was on­ly on suf­fer­ance as Tris­tan Phillips al­lowed the Ladies Sta­ble star In the Head­lines to chal­lenge and she took over im­me­di­ate­ly and shot in­to a two-length lead from Harts Gap as Blind­ing Lights be­gan his run at the leader with An­gry Bird cov­er­ing his every move. It was here that The­o­ry of Colours be­gan to close on the lead­ers and looked like­ly to be in the fin­ish of the Grade One event un­der ‘Hall of Famer’ Ricky Jadoo.

As the hors­es swung for home, In The Head­lines had the race all sewn up as she drew sev­en lengths clear of Blind­ing Lights, An­gry Bird and Harts Gap as The­o­ry of Colours showed a fine turn of foot to be­gin his run on the out­side of the field.

But that did not mat­ter as In The Head­lines sim­ply ran away from his ri­vals in the style of a very good horse while giv­ing Phillips his first Guineas and Grade One win­ner. The­o­ry of Colours showed a good turn of foot to out­run the oth­er O’Brien-trained horse to snatch sec­ond with Blind­ing Lights stay­ing on for third and An­gry Bird in fourth on the slop­py main track.

It was all girl pow­er as the on­ly male in the field was Afri­di which fin­ished a dis­tant last.

The win­ner’s time was 1:56.00 for the 1,800 me­tres.

No­bel Abrego just as he did in the Der­by put up a ki­lo over-weight and won aboard the 8-5 favourite So­ca Har­mo­ny who he put to sleep be­fore bring­ing her alive at the 500m mark­er to out­run the 2022 Gold Cup win­ner, Crown Prince, the 2022 Stew­ards Cup run­ner-up Top of The Class which trav­elled like a win­ner un­til the win­ner pounced in the fi­nal 200m on the 1,350m event. The race was sup­posed to be run on the turf over 1,500m but all events on the turf track were tak­en off the grass and put on the main track.

Go­ing down the back­stretch, Mar­vel Vig­or held sway from New Flash as Top Of The Game and Crown Prince got clos­er on the in­side with So­ca Har­mo­ny in no hur­ry.

With 500m left to race Mar­vel Vig­or was be­ing chal­lenged by Top of The Game with Crown Prince on the in­side as News Flash cried enough. It was here that Abrego asked So­ca Har­mo­ny for her ef­fort.

Just as Crown Prince looked to have got­ten the bet­ter of Top of The Game, here came Abrego and So­ca Har­mo­ny to sweep by them both for an im­pres­sive suc­cess. The 2022 Der­by win­ner set up an­oth­er one-two for train­er O’Brien as Crown Prince fin­ished sec­ond and Top of The Game, third.

The win­ner’s time was 1:22.00.

O’Brien win­ning be­gan with So­ca Har­mo­ny in the fourth event, which was fol­lowed by In The Head­lines in the fifth and in the fi­nal event, Hap­py Bird flew to an im­pres­sive suc­cess.

The day’s lead­ing rid­er was Phillips who rode two win­ners – In The Head­lines and Hap­py Bird for train­er O’Brien.
