Jacob Jacelon, Jack Brown, Makeda Bain and Abba Campbell-Smith lead the way in the TennisTT's Development Trials which is being held to pick four teams to represent T&T at the ITF/COTECC Under-12 Team Development Championships at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua.
Initially, just the top two players from each group were going to be chosen for T&T, but TennisTT learned yesterday that the country had been given the right to host the championships.
According to an organiser Saturday: "This means the top three players in each group will represent the country. It is the privilege you get as the host nation."
On Saturday at the Tacarigua facility, the quartet surged to the top of their respective groups. Jacelon, who had been unbeaten after two matches in Group 1, produced another commanding performance to turn back third-seeded Oliver Harragin 4-2, 4-1 while Novak Malcolm, another player in the group, defeated Ryan Steuart 4-2, 3-5, 10-6.
Meanwhile, Brown, who also entered Saturday's action unbeaten in two games in Group 2, maintained that record with a 4-0, 5-4 Justin Duncan while Josiah Hills clobbered Abhishek Ramdeen 4-0, 4-0 for his second-place
It was basically the same with the girls where Campbell-Smith featured in Group 2 and Makeda Bain in Group 1. The latter had played just one match in the four-player group, but after defeating Cherdine Sylvester in her first match on Friday, Bain returned to the court to clobber Suri Ann Ramcharan in straight sets 4-0, 4-1.
Top-ranked Sylvester rebounded by beating Samiyah Mohammed 4-2, 4-0 on court seven to stay on Bain's heels.
Meanwhile, Campbell-Smith had a flawless victory 4-0, 4-0 over Keyah Roberts, only a day after she prevailed over third-ranked Cyra Ramcharan 4-2, 4-2.
