Former T&T senior national women’s team volleyballer Sinead Jack-Kisal was one of three players in double-figure scoring as Eczacıbaşı Dynavit came from behind to beat Sariyer BLD in four sets to go top of the Vodafone Turkey Women’s Volleyball Sultans League on Saturday.
Playing at home, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit got a joint match-high 21 points from Irina Voronkova while Martyna Czyrnianska added 17, Yaprak Erkek 14, and 30-year-old middle-blocker Jack-Kisal 13 as they overcame a 23-25 first set loss to register a hard fought win, 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 in the next three setsfor their 11th win in 12 matches, and 31 points, the same as Vakifbank (11-1), and Fenerbache Opet (10-1), the latter of whom has a match in hand.
Kimberley Drewniok also tallied 21 points to lead Sariyer, and she got solid support from Merve Nezir with 15 points in the loss, their seventh defeat in 11 matches to stay seventh on 13 points, level with Aydin (4-7) and Galatasaray (4-7), who sits eighth and ninth, respectively, on the 14-club standings.
The rest of the table sees the quintet of Nilufer (4-7), Cukurova (3-8), Besiktas (3-8), PTT (3-8) and Karayyolari (0-11) occupy positions tenth to 14, respectively.
Last year, Eczacıbaşı topped their 2022/2023 domestic regular-season standings with a perfect 26-0 record but was swept for the title by Fenerbahce in the best-of-five series.
Tuesday (December 5), Eczacıbaşı Dynavi, who ended last season as the Turkey women’s league and Confederation European Volleyball (CEV) Women’s Champions League Volleyball runner-up will return to action in Europe against Bulgaria's Maritsa Plovdiv.
Eczacıbaşı Dynavi currently sits second on the Group B four-team table with a 2-1 record and six points after wins against Hungary's Vasas (27-25, 25-21, 25-17), and Plovdiv (25-13, 25-16, 25-20) was followed by a loss against Italians Scandicci, 14-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-23.
Scandicci leads the standings with a perfect 3-0 record and nine points while Plovdiv is third with a 1-2 mark and two points and Vasas is in the bottom spot with a 0-3 mark and one point.
Last season, Eczacıbaşı Dynavit came up short in their bid to claim the CEV Women’s Champions League Volleyball crown after losing out in four sets to defending champions Vakifbank in Turin, Italy.
