T&T sprinter Jereem Richards was in ominous and unstoppable form on Sunday at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix which was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York in the United States of America.
'The Dream' as he is affectionately known, produced a personal best time of 45.83 seconds in sprinting to the gold medal of the Jesse Loubier Memorial Men's 400m metres event, holding off a competitive field that saw three out of the top four runners either producing personal best or season's best times.
Running out of lane four, Richards led from start to finish, despite being trailed closely by American Vernon Norwood, the eventual silver medal winner who produced a season's best time of 46.06 seconds.
American Kahmari Montgomery, who was one of three Americans in the top five of the event was third for the bronze medal, producing an equally quick 46.24 seconds, while Canadian Phil Osei grabbed fourth in a new season's best time of 46.59 seconds. Another American Noah Williams secured the fifth position in 47.08 seconds.
Meanwhile, another T&T runner Ruebin Walters could only manage a seventh-place finish in the men's 60-metre hurdles of the same event.
Walters didn't get the start he had hoped for but still finished with a season's best time of 7.76 seconds. The race was won by American Grant Holloway in 7.37 seconds, with his compatriots dominating the other four positions. Trey Cunningham (USA) took the silver in 7.47 seconds, Devon Allen (USA) third in a season's best 7.51 seconds, while Daniel Roberts (USA) 7.60 and Freddie Crittenden (USA) 7.71 sealed the fourth and fifth positions.
