Kelvin John­son was a com­fort­able win­ner in the St Barn­abas An­gli­can Church 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sep­tem­ber 24.

Af­ter an ab­sence of two years due to COVID-19 re­stric­tions, the event resur­faced with a small­er than the usu­al num­ber of par­tic­i­pants, 34 par­tic­i­pants rang­ing in ages from 10 years to 72 years as­sem­bled at the start­ing point at Pe­nal Rock Road Hin­du School.

The race com­menced at ap­prox­i­mate­ly 6.30 am and at the end, it was John­son cross­ing the line in first place with a time of 17 min­utes and 38 sec­onds to cop the men's ti­tle.

Sher­von York was a far-off sec­ond be­hind John­son with a 19.31-clock­ing and nar­row­ly ahead of third-placed Kel­ton Patrice with 19.49.

In the women's cat­e­go­ry, it was Chantel Le Maitre cruis­ing to vic­to­ry with 22.23 ahead of de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Paula Bhag­wandin

Bhag­wandin, who won first place for the first three years of this event, was beat­en in­to sec­ond place by new­com­er Le Maitre. The three-time cham­pi­on fin­ished with a time of 27.57, ahead of Adelia Di­az Ali, who was third with 31.27.

Christo­pher Williams, at 72 years old, was the old­est par­tic­i­pant, com­plet­ing the course in 44.05, ahead of five much younger par­tic­i­pants.

All par­tic­i­pants re­ceived a medal at the com­ple­tion of the course.
