Genesis Joseph repeated as the overall champion of the T&T Secondary Schools’ Track and Field Association (TTSSTFA) Annual 5k Classic road race in Couva on Sunday.
The St Francis Boys College runner crossed the line at the Couva East Secondary School on Church Street, where the race started as well, in 16 minutes and 30 seconds to also be the 17 and over champion at the 22nd edition of the event. However, his time was slower than last year's 15.43.
In a far-off second was Xavion York of Shiva Boys Hindu School with 17.54 and completing the top three boys' finishing positions was Aleem Barclay of Presentation College, San Fernando with 19.31.
In the girls’ Under-17 race, it was Afiyah Sookoo, who landed herself the top place on the podium with a 41.37-clocking, to also be a clear winner and lead a Sangre Grande Secondary sweep of the top three spots. In second place was her schoolmate Marissa Rampersad in a time of 45.30 and third place, teammate Nikita Dookran with 48.12.
Open Bible High's Terence Ragbir was the winner among the boys U-17 category, with an 18.42-timing, finishing ahead of Asiel Gonzales of Sangre Grande Secondary (19.51) and Queen's Royal College's (QRC) Lemuel Roach (20.36), respectively.
