T&T’s junior Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup teams left local shores yesterday en route to Guatemala for their respective tournaments from today until February 28.
The three-man junior Davis Cup team, led by coach Kino Francis, features Josiah Hills, who is fresh from the Guatemala Copa Junior Tournament where he clinched both the boys' singles and boys' doubles titles. The team also includes Nirav Dougdeen and Christopher Khan.
Meanwhile, coach Larry Yearwood will be hoping his players–Madison Khan, Lily Mohammed, and Makeda Bain–can translate their hard work at practice into solid performances on the court at the junior Billie Jean King Cup.
A release from the Tennis Association of T&T said, “These young athletes have earned their places through dedication, discipline, and consistent performance, and now carry the national flag onto the regional and international stage. Their participation reflects the continued growth and development of junior tennis in T&T.
“This is an exciting time for junior tennis in T&T. Our athletes have demonstrated tremendous commitment to their training and preparation. We are proud to showcase our talent on the world stage and are confident they will compete with heart, sportsmanship, and national pride.”
The eight-day competition will bring together some of the top junior players from across the region, providing invaluable international exposure and competitive experience for the teams.
