T&T’s ju­nior Davis Cup and Bil­lie Jean King Cup teams left lo­cal shores yes­ter­day en route to Guatemala for their re­spec­tive tour­na­ments from to­day un­til Feb­ru­ary 28.

​The three-man ju­nior Davis Cup team, led by coach Ki­no Fran­cis, fea­tures Josi­ah Hills, who is fresh from the Guatemala Co­pa Ju­nior Tour­na­ment where he clinched both the boys' sin­gles and boys' dou­bles ti­tles. The team al­so in­cludes Ni­rav Dougdeen and Christo­pher Khan.

​Mean­while, coach Lar­ry Year­wood will be hop­ing his play­ers–Madi­son Khan, Lily Mo­hammed, and Make­da Bain–can trans­late their hard work at prac­tice in­to sol­id per­for­mances on the court at the ju­nior Bil­lie Jean King Cup.

A re­lease from the Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T said, “These young ath­letes have earned their places through ded­i­ca­tion, dis­ci­pline, and con­sis­tent per­for­mance, and now car­ry the na­tion­al flag on­to the re­gion­al and in­ter­na­tion­al stage. Their par­tic­i­pa­tion re­flects the con­tin­ued growth and de­vel­op­ment of ju­nior ten­nis in T&T.

“This is an ex­cit­ing time for ju­nior ten­nis in T&T. Our ath­letes have demon­strat­ed tremen­dous com­mit­ment to their train­ing and prepa­ra­tion. We are proud to show­case our tal­ent on the world stage and are con­fi­dent they will com­pete with heart, sports­man­ship, and na­tion­al pride.”

The eight-day com­pe­ti­tion will bring to­geth­er some of the top ju­nior play­ers from across the re­gion, pro­vid­ing in­valu­able in­ter­na­tion­al ex­po­sure and com­pet­i­tive ex­pe­ri­ence for the teams.
