Josey Khan and Amelia Woo kept on course for a meeting in the final of the Girls 10 and Under final in the 23rd Sagicor Junior Lawn Tennis Tournament when they advanced to the semifinal with unbeaten records at National Racquet Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua, on Sunday.
In Group One, Khan defeated Kavya Dharrie-Maharaj in their four-player Girls 10 and Under round-robin decider 4-2, 4-1 to end with a perfect 3-0 record while her opponent ended with a 2-1 win-loss mark ahead of the semifinals.
On Saturday, the opening day of competition hosted by the Tennis Patrons Academy Khan overcame Guyana’s Mia Bullen 4-1, 1-4, 10-8 and Emma Clarke 5-3, 4-0 while Dharrie-Maharaj defeated Clarke 4-0, 4-1 and Bullen of Guyana 4-1, 4-2.
And in Group Two, Woo beat Gabriella Jones 4-0, 4-2 to add to her two wins from Saturday over Amara-Allison Mc Kenzie 4-1, 4-1 and Zara Walker 4-2, 4-5, 10-5 to top her round-robin pool with a similar 3-0 record.
Walker defeated Jones 4-2, 4-2 and Allison-Mc Kenzie 4-0, 5-3 for the second spot behind Woo to advance to the semifinals against Khan while Woo faces Dharrie-Maharaj.
In the Boys’ 12 and Under Division, the trio of Eli Paty, Barbadian Cruz Thornton, and Adrian Sanchez of Venezuela all won to top their three-player round-robin groups.
Paty defeated Dhruv Rambhajan 6-1, 6-3 for a 2-0 record in Group Two while Thornton swept past Rohan Ramcharitar 6-1, 6-2 to win Group Group One and Sanchez outclassed Nicholas Mc Letchie 6-0, 6-3 for Group Three honours ahead of the main draw play.
The tournament also includes the Red Ball Under-10 Tournament which will provide beginners who are interested in tennis and intermediate players with the opportunity to hone their skills in the sport in a safe, competitive environment. Matches resume today at 9 am.
