Ramario King makes the sacrifice everyday to leave Rio Claro for the long journey to Naparima College in San Fernando and yesterday he would have enjoyed his trip back home, as he turned in a fine all round performance with bat and ball to lead his school to victory over Barrackpore East in the PowerGen Secondary Schools U-14 cricket tournament at Lewis Street in San Fernando.
Barrackpore under the guidance of veteran coach Khairool Hosein won the toss and took first strike. King came into the attack after pacers Liam Mamchan and Vishwesh Patanaik had made early inroads. He proceeded to send back five batsmen for the cost of only 12 runs, as Barrackpore crashed to 84 all out.
The Southeast player then forged a wonderful opening stand with Jonathan Ramnarace that saw Naps home at 85 without loss. It was the second successive match that the duo posted a half century stand. King remained unbeaten on 38, while Ramnarace made 13 not out.
Barrackpore West continued its fine run in the tournament as well, getting an easy 10-wicket win over Ste. Madeleine Secondary at Barrackpore. Ste. Madeleine took first strike and scored just 41 runs. Barrackpore skipper Naya Ramjit took three for 11. Ramjit then scored an unbeaten 18 to give his school the two points for the win after it achied its victory target at 43 without loss.
