Ra­mario King makes the sac­ri­fice every­day to leave Rio Claro for the long jour­ney to Na­pari­ma Col­lege in San Fer­nan­do and yes­ter­day he would have en­joyed his trip back home, as he turned in a fine all round per­for­mance with bat and ball to lead his school to vic­to­ry over Bar­rack­pore East in the Pow­er­Gen Sec­ondary Schools U-14 crick­et tour­na­ment at Lewis Street in San Fer­nan­do.

Bar­rack­pore un­der the guid­ance of vet­er­an coach Khairool Ho­sein won the toss and took first strike. King came in­to the at­tack af­ter pac­ers Liam Mam­chan and Vish­wesh Patanaik had made ear­ly in­roads. He pro­ceed­ed to send back five bats­men for the cost of on­ly 12 runs, as Bar­rack­pore crashed to 84 all out.

The South­east play­er then forged a won­der­ful open­ing stand with Jonathan Ram­narace that saw Naps home at 85 with­out loss. It was the sec­ond suc­ces­sive match that the duo post­ed a half cen­tu­ry stand. King re­mained un­beat­en on 38, while Ram­narace made 13 not out.

Bar­rack­pore West con­tin­ued its fine run in the tour­na­ment as well, get­ting an easy 10-wick­et win over Ste. Madeleine Sec­ondary at Bar­rack­pore. Ste. Madeleine took first strike and scored just 41 runs. Bar­rack­pore skip­per Naya Ramjit took three for 11. Ramjit then scored an un­beat­en 18 to give his school the two points for the win af­ter it achied its vic­to­ry tar­get at 43 with­out loss.

The Pow­er­Gen Sec­ondary Schools Pre­mier­ship com­pe­ti­tion con­tin­ues to­day with lead­ers Hillview Col­lege com­ing up against Cara­pichaima East in Freeport. Hillview have won all four match­es it con­test­ed to date and sits on 70 points, 13 ahead of sec­ond place Na­pari­ma Col­lege, which plays against Sig­nal Hill in To­ba­go to­day.

Third place team Fa­ti­ma Col­lege comes up against Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege in a mid-ta­ble clash in Mu­cu­rapo. In the oth­er game Bar­rack­pore West plays St. Bene­dicts col­lege in Bar­rack­pore. Com­pe­ti­tion al­so con­tin­ues in the North Cham­pi­onship and South Cham­pi­onship as well.
