RALPH BANWARIE

The Glenn Mendez-trained mare Kitten With A Whip is my choice to win Friday's feature event, Labour Day (observed on June 20), when the Arima Race Club (ARC) will host day six of the 2025 racing season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.

Patrons could expect a good showing from the 34 horses which have taken entry on ARC's six-race programme. The final event which is worth $21,429, is being attacked by the hattrick-seeking Mendez-trained mare Kitten With A Whip which will take along 57.5 kilos.

She will be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Ricky Jadoo. Jadoo is looking to continue his winning form and will have some choice rides on today's card. He will be aboard Have A Great Day for champion trainer John O'Brien and will also ride the favourite in the main event, Kitten With A Whip.

O'Brien continues his great form after winning the Grade One - Tanglewood Stakes in Barbados back in February. He has won every major event contested at Santa Rosa Park this season and will go close if his horses can improve enough to stop Kitten With A Whip. O'Brien has Uncle Rog and Princess Royal engaged.

Former champion trainer Mendez sets his sights on the hattrick bid for Kitten With A Whip and judging from the last two runs, beating this horse will be a difficult task. Magical Mendez knows how to get his horses into great shape and when he does, winning is the only option possible.

With trainer Clive Rambaran running the good horse Striking Chrome, this could prove to be a valuable lesson for him who is seeking to go into the realm of the 2025 Gold Cup.

The other runner in this event is the Rampersad-owned and trained C'est La Vie.

From the look of this event, Kitten With A Whip is the answer.

Post time is 12.45 pm.

Here is the Day 6 card of the ARC racing season.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
