Manswell nets 5 in PVDM 11-1 West Penn win

Kiron Man­swell net­ted a hand­ful of goals to lead Pe­tit Val­ley/Diego Mar­tin Unit­ed to an em­phat­ic 11-1 thump­ing of St James Spar­tans in their open­ing North West Dis­trict en­counter in the RBC West Penn Is­land-wide Com­mu­ni­ty Youth Un­der-20 Foot­ball Tour­na­ment host­ed by the West Penn Cen­ter for Sports & Cul­ture (West Penn) at St An­tho­ny's Col­lege Ground, West­moor­ings on Sun­day (June 2).

For Pe­tit Val­ley/Diego Mar­tin, Jarvis Maa­lik added a hat-trick while Micha'el John got a dou­ble, and Joshua No­ray the oth­er in the lop­sided con­test.

In the open­ing match of a triple-head­er at West­moor­ings, San Juan Jabloteh got a hat-trick from na­tion­al U-20 winger An­dell Fras­er in the sixth, 32nd, and 54th min­utes while Is­rael Radel­lant scored twice (35th, 36th), and Keanu John (10th), and Roshaun Doobay (60th) one each in their 7-0 blow-out of Diego Mar­tin FC.

In the oth­er match, Mal­ick Blue Li­ons over­came an ear­ly set­back to edge Mis­cel­la­neous Laven­tille Utd 3-2 with Tyrese Man­swell (25th), An­to­nio Sealey (28th) and Jaqun Phillip (44th) on tar­get for the win­ners to can­cel out a dou­ble for Mis­cel­la­neous Laven­tille Unit­ed from Ker­sheem Alexan­der in the fourth, and 41st min­utes.

In an­oth­er one-sided con­test, Ma­coya Gin­ga won 8-1 over Ari­ma Creek in the Far East Dis­trict; Evo­lu­tion FC pound­ed Harlem Strik­ers 9-1 in the Cen­tral Dis­trict; City FC spanked Broad­way At­tack­ers 5-2 and Ste Madeleine Strik­ers pun­ished Kamil­lionare FC both in the South Cen­tral Dis­trict, and in the South West, Guapo Up­ris­ing Youths trounced Erin Bor­der Play­ers 6-0.

This year's tour­na­ment fea­tures 48 teams, an in­crease of 16 from last year com­pet­ing across eight des­ig­nat­ed com­mu­ni­ties for $32,000 in prize mon­ey in ad­di­tion to medals and tro­phies with the par­tic­i­pat­ing teams be­ing al­lowed five U-23 play­ers on their ros­ter, but on­ly three fea­tur­ing on the field at any giv­en time.

The win­ners of this year’s com­pe­ti­tion will col­lect $15,000 while the sec­ond-placed team gets $10,000 and the third and fourth, $5,000 and $3,000 re­spec­tive­ly with the fifth to eighth-placed teams each re­ceiv­ing $1,000 each.

Mal­abar Se­mi-Pro Blasters are the two-time reign­ing cham­pi­ons af­ter re­tain­ing their ti­tle in a pul­sat­ing fi­nal, 4-3 in ex­tra-time over for­mer win­ners Pe­tit Val­ley/Diego Mar­tin af­ter a 3-3 reg­u­la­tion-time draw at the Diego Mar­tin Sport­ing Com­plex, last Ju­ly led by a dou­ble from Is­rael Joseph.

In the third-place bat­tle, Maguaya Unit­ed edged FC Gin­ga 1-0 while in the semi­fi­nals both Se­mi-Pro Blasters and Pe­tit Val­ley/Diego Mar­tin won their match­es at the same venue by sim­i­lar 5-1 mar­gins over FC Gin­ga, and Maguaya Unit­ed FA, re­spec­tive­ly.
