Michael McCarthy registered a jaw-dropping 46 points and pulled down 29 rebounds to lead Presentation College San Fernando to a 94-80 victory over St Anthony’s College when action in the RBC Royal Slam College’s Basketball Tournament on the weekend (October 11-12).
Basketball fans were treated to another thrilling weekend of action at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua. With high-intensity matchups, standout performances, and passionate school spirit, week two of the tournament delivered non-stop excitement.
Saturday’s double-header tipped off with the South versus North showdown as Presentation College took on St Anthony’s College.
It was the boys from South who emerged victorious, powered by a dominant performance from their big man McCarthy, who alond with his match-high double-double had four steals, three blocks, and four assists, leading Presentation to the 14-point victory.
Despite the loss, St Anthony’s fought valiantly, with Amir Balgobin, contributing 28 points and Jaheim McLeod adding 17 points in an entertaining offensive display.
In the second matchup of the night, Queen’s Royal College (QRC) picked up their first win of the tournament with a confident 82-56 victory over St Francis Boys College. Talib Daniel led the charge with 24 points and six rebounds, while Kevani Boatswain recorded a strong double-double performance of 16 points and 11 rebounds to seal the win for the Royalians.
Sunday’s clash saw Fatima College continue their impressive form, cruising to a 92–36 win over St Francis Boys College to notch their second win of the tournament. The game’s spotlight belonged to 12-year-old prodigy Jakeem King, who dazzled with 17 points, 10 steals, and six assists, proving that age is just a number in this elite competition.
Tournament action resumes this weekend (October 25-26), featuring the final group stage games before the playoff rounds. All games tip off from 4 pm at the same venue.
