McCoy, Hope dominate in Capitals’ win over Vipers

ABU DHABI – Obed Mc­Coy grabbed three wick­ets and Shai Hope blast­ed an­oth­er un­beat­en half cen­tu­ry as the Dubai Cap­i­tals steam­rolled the Desert Vipers by nine wick­ets when the In­ter­na­tion­al League T20 (ILT20) con­tin­ued in the Unit­ed Arab Emi­rates on Mon­day.

Leg spin­ner Qais Ah­mad took 4-25, while Mc­Coy end­ed with 3-22 to dis­miss the Vipers for a pal­try 137 in 19.4 overs af­ter they sent them in to bat.

Dan Lawrence top­scored with 44 from 31 balls and Sam Cur­ran hit 28. Sher­fane Ruther­ford faced on­ly two balls and did not trou­ble the score.

Hope then scored 52 not out from 54 balls with four fours and one six and Gul­badin Naib smashed an un­beat­en 55 from 31 balls and the Cap­i­tals eased to 138 for one off 17.1 overs.

The pair shared an un­bro­ken part­ner­ship of 96 af­ter open­er Adam Ross­ing­ton was dis­missed for 27 with 42 runs on the board.

The win helped the Cap­i­tals fin­ish sec­ond at the end of the pre­lim­i­nary rounds on 12 points, while the Vipers topped the ta­ble with 14 points de­spite the loss.

It means the two teams will clash again in Qual­i­fi­er 1 on Wednes­day for an au­to­mat­ic spot in the fi­nal.
