MIC Tigers pulled off a huge 61-27 victory over Police in the Women’s A Division when action continued in the San Fernando Netball League at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena (SRISA) in Pleasantville, on Sunday.
The teams met in the opening match of the day and it was one-sided from the first pass.
Tiffany Gonzales topscored for the Tigers with an impressive 26 goals from 27 attempts after entering the match as the goal-shooter in the second half.
It was the opening pair of goal-shooter Kanika Paul-Payne (18/26) and goal-attack Rehanna Ali (15/21), getting MIC off to a great start, combining well to have their team ahead 15-4 at the end of the first quarter and 31-9 at the half.
Paul-Payne was then shifted to the goal-attack position while Gonzales replaced her as goal-shooter and they combined to add a flawless 13 goals from as many tries in the third quarter. Gonzales netted 11 of those goals while her goal-attack put in the other two to move Tigers further ahead 44-20, heading into the fourth period.
In the final quarter, Gonzales was joined by Okera Dennie (2/2), who maintained a high level of play to help the Tigers seal the huge 34-goal victory.
The two matches in the men’s division were also lone lopsided as Bronx blasted Police 40-15 and the national senior team, who is heading out to compete in the netball competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games which opened on Friday, crushed the Southern Netball Academy (SNA), 73-15.
Last Wednesday, teams battled in the divisional shooting competitions.
MIC Tigers topped the Men’s Division with 173 goals, followed by SNA (153) and Bronx (135), respectively.
In the other results, Les Enfants A (76) topped the Beginners, Chaguanas United (116) emerged as the Women’s B winner and Police (150) won the Women’s A division.
All games for the rest of the week have been postponed, due to some plumbing issues at the SRISA facility.
Rescheduled matches are still to be announced.
