MIC Tigers pulled off a huge 61-27 vic­to­ry over Po­lice in the Women’s A Di­vi­sion when ac­tion con­tin­ued in the San Fer­nan­do Net­ball League at the South­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na (SRISA) in Pleas­antville, on Sun­day.

The teams met in the open­ing match of the day and it was one-sided from the first pass.

Tiffany Gon­za­les top­scored for the Tigers with an im­pres­sive 26 goals from 27 at­tempts af­ter en­ter­ing the match as the goal-shoot­er in the sec­ond half.

It was the open­ing pair of goal-shoot­er Kani­ka Paul-Payne (18/26) and goal-at­tack Re­han­na Ali (15/21), get­ting MIC off to a great start, com­bin­ing well to have their team ahead 15-4 at the end of the first quar­ter and 31-9 at the half.

Paul-Payne was then shift­ed to the goal-at­tack po­si­tion while Gon­za­les re­placed her as goal-shoot­er and they com­bined to add a flaw­less 13 goals from as many tries in the third quar­ter. Gon­za­les net­ted 11 of those goals while her goal-at­tack put in the oth­er two to move Tigers fur­ther ahead 44-20, head­ing in­to the fourth pe­ri­od.

In the fi­nal quar­ter, Gon­za­les was joined by Ok­era Den­nie (2/2), who main­tained a high lev­el of play to help the Tigers seal the huge 34-goal vic­to­ry.

The two match­es in the men’s di­vi­sion were al­so lone lop­sided as Bronx blast­ed Po­lice 40-15 and the na­tion­al se­nior team, who is head­ing out to com­pete in the net­ball com­pe­ti­tion at the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean Games which opened on Fri­day, crushed the South­ern Net­ball Acad­e­my (SNA), 73-15.

Last Wednes­day, teams bat­tled in the di­vi­sion­al shoot­ing com­pe­ti­tions.

MIC Tigers topped the Men’s Di­vi­sion with 173 goals, fol­lowed by SNA (153) and Bronx (135), re­spec­tive­ly.

In the oth­er re­sults, Les En­fants A (76) topped the Be­gin­ners, Ch­agua­nas Unit­ed (116) emerged as the Women’s B win­ner and Po­lice (150) won the Women’s A di­vi­sion.

All games for the rest of the week have been post­poned, due to some plumb­ing is­sues at the SRISA fa­cil­i­ty.
