Top-seeded Nabeel Mohammed booked a spot in the Men's A Division in the Metro Hotel Chetwynd End of Year Open Singles Tennis Tournament with a hard fought win over Askia Richards in their semifinal match, Sunday.
Playing at Upper St Vincent Street in Tunapuna, two-time national champion and Chetwynd Men's Doubles winner, Mohammed, overcame Richards 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 and will face the winner of next Saturday's other semifinal between Seve Day and Kristyan Valentine in the title-match after the former ousted Keshan Moonasar in their quarterfinal match-up, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
In the Men's B Division, Cliff Meade brushed aside Steven Anderson 6-2, 6-4 in their last-eight clash and was then awarded a walkover semifinal victory against Nirav Dougdeen.
In the final, Meade will meet the winner of the match between top-ranked Jayden Mitchell, and the winner of the remaining quarterfinal between former T&T and West Indies opener Suruj Raggonath and Adisa Idemudia which will be played tomorrow.
The top ranked Winston John is also through to the Over-45 final after he won his semifina against Kieran Gomes 6-2, 6-2 with Mukesh Ramsingh and Robert Caesar to meet in the other semifinal.
And in the Over-60 category, Rafeek Mohammed booted Frank Ramudit 6-2, 6-2 in their semifinal for a spot in the final against Gary Siewdass, who ousted number one player, John in Saturday's late match.
