ASJA Girls' College Charlieville allrounder Jennah Mohammed was named Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Girls Division "Player of the Year" on Wednesday when the SSCL held its awards ceremony at the Couva Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce Hall.
The AC Women’s player, shot to the limelight when she scored 227 not out against Chaguanas North Secondary.
She beat national players Amrita Ramtahal and Brianna Harricharran to the honours.
Mohammed shared her delight at her first honours.
“I’m truly honoured to have been named the SSCL 'Cricketer of the Year',” Mohammed said yesterday.
“It’s a proud moment that reflects the hard work and dedication I put in throughout the season. I could not have done it without God — all praise is due to Him. I’m also deeply grateful to my parents, my coaches and my extended family for their constant support and belief in me.
"It would be remiss of me if I didn’t mention my school ASJA Girls' College Charlieville who entrusted me with the task of leading the team in all three divisions.”
Mohammed scored over 400 runs this year and is looking for more runs next season.
“Scoring a total of 403 runs in the Open Tournament was a milestone, and I’m motivated to push even further and aim higher in the upcoming season. Thank you to everyone who stood by me on this journey,” said a motivated Mohammed.
On the boys’ side, T&T Under-19 batsman and U-17 captain Brendan Boodoo of Presentation College San Fernando was named the Premier Division "Player of the Year".
Boodoo, who was named in the U-19 team for the Rising Stars tournament in St Kitts & Nevis starting next week, scored 365 runs in the league as he led the Presentation College San Fernando batting.
Stevon Gomez was named the Championship Division's "Player of the Year" after scoring 322 for Rio Claro East Secondary.
