Veteran Trinidad and Tobago Red Force batsmen Jason Mohammed and Evin Lewis have called time on their first-class careers.
The two players made the decision to retire following T&T’s historic capture of the West Indies Championship title on Wednesday – the country’s first in 20 years.
Coincidentally, Mohammed, 39, was also a member of the T&T team that won their last 4-Day title back in 2006.
Having represented the Red Force for two decades, he finishes his career as one of the top regional run scorers with 5676 runs from 112 matches at an average of 32.25, inclusive of 17 centuries and 20 half centuries.
Mohammed, who also played 36 One Day Internationals and six T20Is for the West Indies, retired from international cricket in 2023.
“It’s an amazing feeling. We haven’t won this title for 20 years now, I can’t really express my feelings. In a way I’ve toiled for a lot of years not having this title.
“For me bowing out, the sort of cricket that this team played throughout this year it was really amazing. I’m so happy to be a part of this,” Mohammed said.
“I was involved in the team back in 2006 that won. I can’t remember how it felt back then, but now it’s a really amazing feeling and I couldn’t ask for a better send off after a long career.”
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old Lewis was one of the architects of T&T’s 141-run victory over the Guyana Harpy Eagles in the final, scoring a match-winning century in the second innings.
He ends his first-class career with 1439 runs from 27 matches at an average of 30.61. He also scored two centuries and eight half centuries.
