The trials for the upcoming North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Age Group Under-13 and U-15 Championships have been moved to Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago from November 20-21.
The two-day meet was to take place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo but on Monday the National Association of Athletics Administrations of T&T (NAAATT) announced the change of venue. It will start at 10 am on both days as the NAAATT seek to select the top athletes for the third edition of the Age Group Championships set for Managua, Nicaragua from December 17-18.
The national team will take on athletes from some 34 nations including host Nicaragua, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and Grenadines, Turks and Caicos, US Virgin Islands, USA, Curacao, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St Maarten.
At the Athletics Stadium in the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports, Plaza Espana, athletes in the U-13s pentathlon which include five disciplines - 60-metre dash, 800m/1,000m (girls/boys), long jump, high jump and baseball throw - will start the competition off.
In the U-15 category, athletes will battle for a spot on the podium in the heptathlon, attempting to tally as many points possible from seven events including 80m, 1,000/1,200m (girls/boys), 60/80m hurdles (girls/boys), long jump, high jump, baseball throw and shot put.
The NAAATT has hosted two preparation meets leading up to the Trials, the first at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on the weekend of October 16 and at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, a week later.
Tehillah Francois dominated the girls' outdoor pentathlon 11-12 category, topping both meets. The Mason Hall Police Youth Club pentathlete tallied 2,272 points in the first and improved at home, winning with 2,458 points. In second was Zenith's Toniyah Balfour with 2,035 and Denesia Fletcher of Zenith was third (1,904).
In the boys' version of the event, Michal Paul of Concorde Athletic Club won with 2,863 at the opening prep meet while Malique Young of Zenith Athletic Club commanded the second meet with a 2,673-tally.
In the U-15 Heptathlon, twin brother and sister Tyrique and Tenique Vincent of Concorde won their categories at the first meet with 4,323 and 3,814, respectively. In Tobago, the following week, it was Jayden Phillips (Mason Hall PYC), topping the boys' competition with 3,966 points while Kaori Robley (Mercury Athletic Club) won with 3,407 points.
These athletes are currently in preparation with their respective clubs, aiming to shine at the two-day Trials for a place on the national team.
