One Jabb/Ktreadz was crowned champions of the 46-53 Division of this year’s Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) Eight-A-Side Football League without kicking a ball after their closest rivals dropped crucial points in their penultimate match in the five-team round-robin league at the Queen’s Park Oval, Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday (October 6) night.
This was after, second-placed Rose ITSL failed to take its title push down to Friday’s final match day after being held to a 2-2 draw by Overwatch in their rescheduled encounter.
Rose ITSL, who went into the match with nine points and six matches and six behind One Jabb/Ktreadz, needed to win to have any chance of claiming the crown and got one goal from Omar Romero and an own goal but was pegged back by Overwatch, who got replies from Robert Caesar and Adam Farfan for a share of the points.
With the drawn outcome, Rose ITSL moved to ten points from seven matches and cannot catch leaders One Jabb/Ktreadz, who has 15 points from seven matches ahead of Friday’s final round of matches.
In the Over-60 Division, Murphy Clarke took a bold step towards ending Khan’s Poultry two-year reign as champions and securing their first title since 2023 after blanking Fat Boys 2-0 thanks to goals from Basil Alexander and Newton Wright to move to 19 points from nine matches, three more than debutants TSZ, and needing only a draw against cellar-placed Jamieson to secure the title.
TSZ, meanwhile, needs a big win over fourth place Steel Drum and Murphy Clarke to suffer a shock defeat to have any chance of stealing the title on the final day.
The title deciders in the Under-35 Division and the 36-45 Division will come down to top-of-the-table final-day clashes, setting the stage for an interesting end to this year’s tournament.
In the Under-35 competition, Leaders Exhibit One (12 points) and Bliss Carnival (11 points) will face off for the title, while in the 36-45 Division, Harts concluded their campaign with 22 points from eight matches and a goal difference of plus-18, three points ahead of title holders Sheppard Securities, who must defeat third-place Domino’s by five clear goals to share the title or by six goals to claim it outright.
