Police FC moved to the top of the T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) Tier II Group One standings via a 1-0 win over the University of T&T (UTT) at the Ken Cooke Ground, Police Training Barrack, Long Circular Road, St James on Saturday (June 21).
The win came via a fortuitous own goal for the lawmen off Kwasi Charles in the 40th minute to push their points tally to 38 points from 15 matches at the top of the 11-team table, two points ahead of previous leader Malabar Young Stars, who have played two matches more, while the University of T&T is fourth with 34 points from 17 matches, level with Queen's Park Cricket Club who have a match in hand.
Young Stars surrendered the top spot after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Queen's Park Cricket Club (QPCC), who got their goals from Giovanni Hospedales as early as the sixth minute, Sean De Silva, a penalty in the 38th and Jaden Mc Kree in the 78th.
In the other match, Prison Service Ignite ended the slim hopes of last year's winners Harlem Strikers, reaching the 'Big Eight' playoffs via an 8-1 drubbing with Shandon Joseph (second, 20th), Ainsley Grazette (fourth, 61st), and Micah Marshall (63rd, 65th) firing in two goals each.
The pair of Josiah Joseph (67th) and Kellon Murrien (85th) were also on target for Prison Service Ignite while Harlem Strikers got a lone item from Ryan Porter in the 72nd.
In Group Two, Defence Force finished their round-robin campaign with 47 points from their 18 matches with AL Union Hall United, a distant second with 34 points from 17 matches, and third Central Soccer World with 27 points to secure a spot in the 'Big Eight'.
This leaves Guaya United, fourth with 21, and MIC Mathura ReUnited fifth with 20, the same as Petit Valley/Diego Martin United to battle for the final qualification spot.
