The trio of Police, Magnolias and IN Sports Field Hockey Academy were crowned champions in their respective divisions when the T&T Hockey Board (TTHB) Outdoor season continued at the National Hockey Centre in Tacarigua on Sunday (March 29).
In the Mixed Veterans Division, Police, led by a handful of goals from Akim Toussaint, clobbered Queen's Park Cricket Club 8-2 to capture their divisional crown on goal difference from their opponents.
Toussaing scored in the ninth, 21st (penalty), 26th, 29th and 30th minutes for Police while Dwain Quan Chan added a double in the seventh, and 20th, and Solomon Eccles, the other in the 29th as they finished on 13 points from six matches, the same as the Parkites, but with a superior goal-difference of plus-34 to the Parkites plus-21.
The Parkites who entered the match only needing to avoid defeat to secure the titles got both their goals off the stick of Shawn Lee Quay, in the 11th and 17th minute, the latter, a penalty-stroke.
A day earlier, Toussaint helped himself to eight goals and Quan Chan six while Attiba Whittington and Shane Legerton chipped in with one each in their 16-0 blow-out of Notre Dame, while Queen's Park Cricket Club drubbed Fatima 8-1, led by a hat-trick from Daniella Thompson.
The Girls Under-19 Division title also came down to goal aggregate, with Magnolias pipping Paragon to the title after both teams ended with nine points each from four matches.
On Saturday in their final match, Magnolias got a hat-trick from Natania Rowe to whip Harvard Checkers 7-1, while on Sunday, Paragon needed to win by 12 goals, trounced Harvard Checkers 5-0, inspired by a beaver-trick from Mikeisha De Silva.
In the end, both Magnolias and Paragon ended with nine points; however, Magnolias had a superior goal difference of plus-12 to Paragon's plus-nine to edge their way to the title.
And in Boys Under-19 Division, IN Sports Field Hockey Academy outplayed Fatima 5-2 on Saturday, led by two goals from Jabari Alexander and one each from Zarion Carter, Rene Mohammed and Abede Campbell to cancel efforts from Jahlon Carr and Lucas Gill-Gibbons.
