"Player of the Match" Kamil Pooran led No Man’s Land Explorers to a double victory - in the eliminator and the final - to claim the trophy in the first Dream 11 Bago T10 Blast competition Sunday at the Shaw Park recreational ground in Scarborough, Tobago.
In the title match, the Explorers met the awaiting Pirate Bay Raiders and defeated them by nine wickets. Raiders entered the match as the top team with eight wins and two losses in their 10 matches.
Explorers won the toss and opted to bowl. In the first innings, after Crystian Thurton’s dismissal, Red Force batsman Evin Lewis scored 25 off 15 deliveries, hitting only two boundaries. To end it off, Marlon Richards scored 25 from 11, hitting two fours and two sixes, which led the Raiders to a score of 108 for five in 10 overs. Queen's Park Cricket Club's player Mikkel Govia picked up two wickets for 14 runs.
In reply, star batsman Pooran and Jyd Goolie shared a 27-run partnership, scoring 39 and 16, respectively. After the dismissal of Goolie, Dejourn Charles stepped in and scored 42 not out, hitting seven boundaries around the field. Pooran remained not out for 39. The Explorers emerged victorious in the eight overs to take home the Bago’s T10 Blast title.
Earlier in the day, Explorers battled against the Store Bay Snorkelers for a spot in the final and they won by nine wickets.
Explorers won the toss yet again and elected to bowl first. The Snorkelers had a 79-run opening partnership from Daniel Williams and Dillon Douglas, who scored 21 and 56, respectively. Despite captain Terrance Hinds’ early dismissal, Jesse Bootan helped along the way with his 20 runs from 12 deliveries, and the Snorkelers closed on 115 for five in ten overs. Govia ended with figures of two for 21.
In response, with Jyd Goolie's dismissal for one run, Pooran and captain Tion Webster held down the fort, as the double half-centuries led them to their first victory of the day. Pooran scored 52 from 26 deliveries, smashing two fours and five sixes, while Webster scored 53 from 27, hitting four fours and four sixes. Explorers scored 119 for one in 9.1 overs, to win by nine wickets and go to the finals.
Central Sports star player, Pooran, won the "Most Valuable Player" award for both matches yesterday. He was also awarded for most fours scored throughout the tournament.
