National Under-19 all-rounder Fareez Ali scored an unbeaten 101 to lead Presentation College Chaguanas to the Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) back-to-back Premiership Division titles at Bamboo Settlement, Valsayn on Thursday.
The win came against Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College which became the first school to score 200 against them this season.
Vishnu Boys were put in to bat first and got 83 for the opening stand with Christian Lall, who made 49, and Israel Gonzales, who scored 44. The home team stumbled and lost Lall, Ishant Roopnarine and Zachary Madray (0) as they lost three wickets in four runs.
When it looked like Presentation was going to turn the screws, after the wicket of Israel Gonzales at 126 for four, Andrew Rambaran (50) and skipper Ishmael Ali (61) built a 54-run partnership to take the home team to 234 for six, becoming the only team to cross 200 against Presentation.
They were eventually bowled out for 242 in 48.2 overs.
In reply and in search of 243 to win, Darrius Batoosingh and Jaden Joseph scored 17 each but the champions were 60 for three when Christiano Ramanan joined the openers back in the pavilion. Luke Ali and Fareez Ali scored a 69-run partnership before Luke departed for 56. Fareez was then joined by Zakariyya Mohammed, who stayed until the end with the former Naparima College captain. Mohammed was 32 not out, and Ali got to 101 as they guided Presentation, who are still unbeaten to 245 for four, to successfully defend the League title they won last year.
Elsewhere, national U-17 captain, Brendan Boodoo, scored a double-century to lead Presentation College San Fernando to a 279-run win over Toco Secondary. Boodoo scored 200 from 142 balls that included 22 fours and four sixes as the Presentation team totalled 391 for three.
Toco was then bowled out for 112 with Emilio Villafana getting 4 for 16.
