Police Youth Club (PYC) and Metal Industries Company (MIC) Tigers improved to perfect 2-0 records in the Alternative Division with contrasting wins in the Court All Sectors Netball League at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua on Tuesday night.
Coming off a 26-10 triumph over University of Southern Caribbean (USC) in their opener last week, MIC Tigers crushed the previously unbeaten University of the West Indies (UWI) 'Y', 32-8.
Goal-shooter Okera Dennie led the way for Tigers with 15 goals from 26 attempts ad Aaliyah Modeste, added 13 from 20 attempts.
Substitute goal-shooter Crystal Jones also chipped in with four goals from five attempts for the winner, who raced into a 9-1 first quarter advantage and never looked back.
Sarah Jones converted five of six attempts and Reanna Ali, three from seven for UWI ‘Y’.
PYC had a much tougher battle on their hands and needed a second-half improvement to edge UWI ‘X’ 19-16.
Goal-shooter Cheryse Aguilleria and goal-attack Kaliyah Cooper scored 10 of 20 attempts and nine from 16 attempts respectively for PYC who trailed 2-3 at the end of the first quarter before drawing even at the half-time interval at 8-8.
PYC eventually took the lead during the third period after it outscored UWI ‘X’, 5-3 and then held on for a 6-5 margin in the final quarter.
Mariah Smith was the lone player in double-figure scoring for the losers, with ten goals from 16 attempts while Shuntelle Morris got four from 11 and Tineca John, two from four.
In the day’s other match, Defence Force battled past Las Lomas Academy, 15-13 thanks to Nickeisha Peters-Williams’ 11 goals from 16 attempts and Cellie Bonaparte’s four from eight tries.
Debra Superville was the main point of attack for Las Lomas with 11 goals from 20 attempts and Stacy Patron got two from eight.
