Fast bowler Aadian Racha took five wickets for 11 runs which helped T&T to record victory by an innings and 63 runs against the Leewards Islands on the second and final day of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 Championship at the Inshan Ali Park, Preysal on Thursday.
Resuming on 142/4 in 50 overs, the T& T closed its innings on 200 for 9.
On the resumption, Niall Maingot was the top scorer for T&T on the second day, scoring 28 off 109 deliveries and Fareez Ali, made 13 off eight balls. There was a partnership of 20 runs between Maingot(7) and Ali(13).
After Maingot was caught by Eirate Richards, it also had a small partnership of five between Ishmael Ali(1) and Aadian Racha(2). But wickets continued to fall, and the captain of T&T Ali made the decision and declared, closing with 200 for nine in 72.3 overs.
Bowling for the Leewards Ozan Williams took five wickets for 60 runs from the 25 overs he bowled with eight of those overs being maiden overs, Israel Morton picked up three wickets for 40 runs in 19 overs.
Trailing by 127 runs, the Leewards batting a second time was all out for 64 in 38.2 overs.
Wicketkeeper Xaveer Toppin top-scored with 19 runs from 79 balls and Matthew Miller scored of 17 balls.
Racha picked five wickets for 11 runs in 11 overs, Cristian Rampersad took two for 11 from seven overs, while Alexander, Ishmael Ali and Aneal Rooplal took one each to help the batting slide of the opposition.
Racha was rewarded with the Man of the Match honours at the end of the game for taking eight wickets for 32 runs in the match. T&T was the only outright victory recorded in the fixture.
In the other 2-day matches, Jamaica and Guyana drew at the National Cricket Centre at the end of day 2. Jamaica closed on 200 for nine in their first innings while Guyana declared and ended on 202 for 8. In Jamaica’s second innings, they closed on 36 in 18 overs, drawing the game.
Over at Gilbert Park in California, the match between Barbados and the Windward Islands was also drawn. In their first innings, Barbados closed on 213 all out in 76.4 overs and then 30 for one in the second innings. Windwards on the other hand ended on 210 all out in 89 overs in the first innings. Windward’s Kirt Murray was awarded Man of the Match for his bowling figures, three wickets for 36 and batting figures of 20 runs from 48 deliveries. (With reporting by Vinaya Boodram)
